There hasn't been a really serious dramatic cartoon in America since TLoK ended. All the CN shows are way too jokey and have no real sense of gravity, and the "action cartoons" on Disney are too juvenile and too bad to take seriously. Live action television is in a golden age of quality dramatic content, and animated series have to be jokey to get taken seriously by executives. It's intensely frustrating.

I feel ya OP, it sucks that we're so deficient in drama shows nowadays. We had such good ones too in the 2000s, Stuff like Samurai Jack, W.I.T.C.H., Spectacular Spider-Man, we've had nothing aside from Korra in the last 5 years. There's always anime I guess but I would dig to see what the West can still come up with, if studios could stop pumping out Adventure Time ripoffs and live action shit.

No one ever even mentions Season 1. Watching Season 1 episodes on Netflix is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me, because the show was so different when they were just figuring things out. Having insider info and knowing how things eventually turned out makes Season 1 a surreal experience

Can someone tell me what's wrong with Kitty's role in Guardians of the Galaxy? She's being portrayed as a responsible, mature and caring woman in a way she hadn't been portrayed since Mekanix. She's also showing her skills as a leader, something she never got to do in a serious way with the X-Men (WotXM portrayal of leadership was laughable like that issue where Storm comes back).
Is it because she wasn't chosen by Giffen or DnA back in the day? She was a forgotten C-list character that never got the spotlight in the franchise she was created after the 80s ended, just like all the other Guardians were. She's not like Iron Man or Captain Marvel who are A and B list respectively. Her only role in X-Men books outside of Claremont and Davis was always that of the girlfriend or the sidekick, she was never an important character until now and conversely her most important stories always happened to be in space. I bet Dan Abnett would not have had any problem with using her if he was allowed.
