Is there a reason why every Canadian cartoon looks like shit?
Low production values, lower expectations and a smaller pool of talented artists/animators.
They're required to produce a certain amount of animated series for television, which results in a lot of shows that have basically no budget and no effort put into them in order to meet the standard.

If you want something comparable to Avengers Cap, look at the Nolan cowl. It had the same problems with how it framed the mouth and chin to look like a flabby little baby face.

I have read only handful of those newer comics. In my opinion they are bad story- and very bad lorewise. Old ones also have better graphics, much more "mystical" to my taste, which is nice when dealing with eldritch horrors rather than "hellish superheroes and brave detectives".
