What is Durian like?
Personally it reminds me of roasted caramel passion fruit.
Salty milk and coins
God what's with that guy. He totally over does it with his taste reactions and that leaning to the side thing with his eyeballs about to explode.
Anyone have a balcony or patio garden?
Now that Spring is upon us, I was hoping to grow some veggies on my balcony. I have a friend giving me a tomato plant. Anything else I can pick up that can grow well potted? I'm looking for more veggies than herbs, but I wouldn't mind some herbs too.
Also, do I need to do anything to keep bugs off them?
Those pots are way, way too small for tomatoes, FYI. 5 gallon bucket, minimum.
You can do potatoes in a five gallon bucket. Cabbage and lettuce in a good sized pot. You can also do strawberries in a strawberry jar or even a hanging basket. Herbs you can do pretty much anything.
Bugs won't be too much of a problem, especially if they are on a balcony above ground. Just keep an eye on them.
Also, don't cheap out on the soil. Get good (not Miracle Gro), light weight potting soil from a real garden center, not Home Depot or another big box.

Arugula is really easy to grow and will save you a lot if you like it and buy it a lot. I usually do some kind of peppers but last year I did a sugar baby watermelon on my porch and it was great.
Steamed, fried or deep fried?
Fried. All are good, though
Steamed > deep fried > fried
>Thick skin
Steamed or boiled
>Thin skin
Fried
For cereal . soy milk? Almond milk? Or coconut milk?
None of those. Try cashew milk, it's the most similar to dairy.
Cow's milk.

Hey /ck/ pretty sure I fucked up my smoked salmon
I let it sit overnight in a salt / sugar / peppercorn mixture, then put it in my smoker for 3 hours.
When I came back out to check on it, it was cold and still raw. I checked and the smoker was out of pellets so I loaded them back in.
Is my salmon still okay to eat? Temp says it was at 50* F (10* C), pretty sure it's been sitting like that for at least 2 hours.
Is it fucked?
>>7455301
why wouldn't you post a picture of it?
>>7455301
It's fine, you brined it so it's chemically safe.
its fine
according to the USDA and FDA food can be in the danger zone up to 4 hours and still be OK
this salmon could probably sit in the danger zone for much longer as long as you finish smoking it correctly

I'm a trained chef and look at what ingredients I have and make up my own recipes.
Thread for in-depth criticism (both positive and negative) of plant cultivars.
I'll give you an example.
Although "Anne" is theoretically superior to "Fall Gold", I find "Fall Gold" holds up better in the heat of the South provided it is in partially shaded areas.
"Anne" doesn't grow very much, its yields are absurdly small, and the fruit never lasts to term. By contrast, "Fall Gold" grows tall and sturdy, produces considerably more fruit, and does so consistently.
So far I've been very...

I've been meaning to eat more vegetables, but i only know of carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower. what other vegetables do people usually eat?
>>7454963
I mostly like potatoe. Sometimes rutabaga.
>>7454963
tomatoes, eggplant, celery
>>7454963
People eat all kinds of vegetables. I'm sure if it exists, someone has eaten it.
Why don't you just pick up some unfamiliar vegetables from the store, and then Google recipes?

Anyone tried it? I think it's pretty decent.
Of course Sriracha mixed with mayo is a Euro only cuisine. Nobody could have possibly thought of that before.
>>7454771
American here, I tried some. I don't get the appeal though its just mayonnaise and sriracha.
You could probably just buy both and put them on your sandwich and still have the option to choose.
isn't that called samurai sauce?
Is Easy Cheese the poor man's caviar?

It's the poor man's cheez whiz
Texas caviar would be the poor man's caviar.
No, it's just easy cheese
I just saw a thread on reddit: Prime Brisket for 3.19 a pound at Costco.
I got a Costco membership for an Xmas gift so we checked our Costco and they had the prime brisket at the same price.
Choice flats were priced at 5 dollars but the full packer prime briskets were 3.19
That is a great price. Last year we had to get a packer from a butcher and it cost us 8 dollars a pound.
The Snow just melted off here in Michigan so I am ready to get the smoker fired up.
Excellent blog

Prime brisket is always 3.49 a pound at my local store and pork belly is 2.79.

Just found the only one commercial lager beer that can compete with trapist, dark and wheat beers.Cool price too.
does it taste like a burger?
>>7454514
A bit.

>"can compete with trapist, dark and wheat beers"
It's not surprising that you can't even spell Trappist with such an ignorant statement.
Bitburger is slightly above average for a commercial Pilsener. Nothing more.
Cooking for my crush this friday, what salads makes girls want to put out? She also requested me to make my burgers, so i'm gonna bake some buns and get some good meat, but i can't decide what toppings to go for, i'm used to making big manly burgers, but the mood might require something more light. Was thinking of trying blue cheese, but she said she doesn't really like french cheeses, so i'm not sure if i should risk going for it.
Send help please.
>>7454290
She sounds horrible
>>7454294
She's one of those "hippie" girls, she doesn't actually eat meat, but she was okay with me making burgers because the butcher i go to raises his own animals.
Not looking for anything serious, but she's fucking hot.

Why do I never see anyone here using one of these? Is there an upside to chopping garlic vs. crushing it?
You can crush garlic with a knife too.
Chopping is easier and requires no special tool. With that said I like how much flavor crushed garlic brings out.
I always chop mine and give it a press with the flat aide of the knife but i guess crushing the whole thing might make it melt better into the dish and not have little pieces everywhere.
Be good for sneaking it into dishes like really really fine diced onion.
