I've been buying these mashed potatoes in the carton for a couple months now. Should I be making my own?

No...I've been doing the boxed shit for years...just don't let the leftovers sit in the pot...it'll harden into concrete...

Another hint, use coffee cream instead of milk, and if you can get the 'Potatoho' brand...
>>
>>7520241
It's super easy to make your own, and they taste better imo. Uses only one pot and potatoes are versatile as shit so buying a bag has many uses.

just boil cubed potatoes (the water added should be cold) until tender, drain, and mash. You can then style them however you want to. I tend to use milk, butter, sour cream, some cheese, paprika, cayenne, cumin, s&p, then whatever else I feel like adding at that time.

mashing yourself allows you to control consistency too.

>boil cubed potatoes

Don't do this, potatoes will have too much water and you'll get shitty mashed potatoes. Instead just boil whole or half potatoes until tender and if you can invest in a potato ricer, makes the mashed taters really fluffy, then add butter and milk and you're pretty much set.

Are french fries healthy? Is it okay to eat them everyday? I heard potatoes have almost all essential nutrients but I'm not sure. I mean it's not like I would ever touch anything green that isn't on a burger or sandwich.

All the oil used to fry the potato and the pound of salt added after says not healthy.

Potatoes have a lot of essential nutrients, but think of less fattening ways to cook them.

Bake it and don't put 10 pounds of bacon and sour cream on it.
Mash without using a full stick of butter.
Dice and cook with garlic, a pinch of salt, pepper, and a very small amount of butter.
Make a potato waffle/pancake.

What does /ck/ order at chipotle? I'm an "everything but the kitchen sink"/most bang for my buck guy. I seem to end up with almost twice as much substance as other orders I see going down the line.

My order:
> Bowl with tortilla in bottom( for maximum capacity)
> initial layer of lettuce bits
> shit tier over cooked white rice
> both pinto and black beans
> fajitas(They always jew me on this, "extra, please")
> recently went veg, so sofritas
> I miss the chicken, sofritas suck ;.;
> mild, medium, and corn salsa
> the verde has a decent flavor, tomatoes/corn for sweetness
> sour cream and cheese
> gauc(it's really not awful)
> topped with more flaccid lettuce
> request lemon slices and apply juice liberally to bowl

MFW the mouth breather in front of me tonight referred to a tortilla as "pita" three times and smelled like shit stain.

Lots of cuisines get crowed about here, but I don't recall ever seeing any love for Georgia, and their food is totally fucking great.

Went out tonight to a bakery/cafe with one of those big round ovens with a few friends. Two bottles of wine and an hour and a half later we'd tried Kachapuri cheese bread, a trio of salads featuring ground walnuts with spinach, eggplant and green beans, a dish of chicken and potatoes in a serious garlic sauce, a lamb, potato and eggplant stew and some beef and pork dumplings (hinkali), which were like Chinese steamed dumplings, but more flavorful. Almost all of these dishes were outrageously good, and not crazy expensive.

And the wine was fucking great, also not crazy expensive.

Why didn't anyone tell me about Georgian food sooner, and why isn't it as popular as Lebanese or Turkish? It's just as good, maybe even better. Fuck. Might be some of the most delicious food I've ever eaten.

I wish so much that I could just go and eat one. But I have to work very hard to stay thin. One burger feels like I'm going backwards by a week.

Goddamnit I hate this. I hate caring what I look like.

How can I make my own nacho cheese sauce? Not chili con queso, I mean the liquid yellow vaguely cheese flavored sauce like they have at ball park nachos, dairy queen, and taco bell. I know ball parks use Rico's and it isn't that great, I really like Taco Bells and really really like Dairy Queens.

Make a white sauce with a roux, then add your cheese of choice.

I'd try the cans of it at the grocery store first. It's probably not worth the trouble to make it yourself unless it's something special.

ITT: shit which you do that is weird with your food and why.

I have a habit of wrapping all my chocolate wrappers into the one dense bit of foil to convince myself I only had the one. Especially with Easter eggs and Ferrero Rochers.

Last time I was making a big batch of food to store and waiting for it to cook I said fuck it and ate 10 bowls of cereal smearing peanut butter on cake icecream sandwiches. Then mixed bran, corn flakes and oats in a big mug added sugar and ate that watching tv. Immediately began having stomach ache and went to sleep. Woke up and drank the sugar-carb mush.
I never thought I would eat again.

Vinegar. You gotta let it swim again

Hey /ck/. I'm a university student and I work full time. I like cooking, but lately I've been eating nothing but pasta and sandwiches because they're easy to make. I've gained quite a few pounds during the winter.

I'm trying to lose some weight by replacing some of my carb-heavy diet with some tasty alternatives featuring more vegetables and protein (and running, now that the ice has melted where I live.)

Do you have any good low-carb recipes that aren't super difficult to make? Thanks.

carbs aren't thesource of your weight gain, excess calories are

if you're going to do cardio it'd be wise to keep carbs up. just track calories and weigh your food.
