It's the Gf's birthday tomorrow. She wants to make veggie burgers from scratch.
I like veggie burgers but all my attempts have yielded dry/lousy patties that just fall apart.
Big fan of the tikka masala veggie burgers. Any tips/recipes?

/ck/, I've long been curious about the typical food fare for truckers, traveling salespeople, and other on the interstate, in the air, over-seas, etc. All I've really been able to glean is a little about military rations, some stories from my Dad visiting auto industry partners in Japan in the early nineties, and seeing around truck stops when on vacation as a young child.
Does anyone have much information on what truckers tend to equip their long-haul cabs with? The typical etiquette for traveling salespeople for business lunches? Dining at forward-operating-bases?...

Diet consists of caffeine, nicotine and crystal meth.
I have a small 12v cooler in the cab that I usually keep a few sodas, beers, sandwiches and beef jerky in too.

I assumed you were joking about meth. But, I'm also sure it's done. I think there was a gradual introduction of urinalysis in the 80s and most companies only allow you to drive so much a day. I am interested in that aspect of the industry as well, but, mostly as it pertains to food / cooking.
For example, in college, I was prescribed generic Adderall IR and dexedrine spansules, and milk was my food/beverage of choice for synergy with that, because it kept my blood sugar up and had protein to supply...

Fondue pot sets I was given as a gift. I haven't used them in years. I've maybe used them 2 times in 5 years. I would swap them for anything more useful or another crockpot. I put them in my goodwill pile often but always take them out at the last minute. Also my bread machine. I don't eat a lot of bread anymore, I would swap that for a tea kettle

The Ninja Express blender/processor/shredder/juicer thing. It's hell to clean, so we never use it, and it takes up most of a cabinet on its own. I have a Ninja 3 blade blender that I use the fuck out of. But that fucking shredder thing is shit.

What are some great ways to eat or prepare these bad boys?
I usually slice them up and pour over some olive oil and lime juice vinaigrette, sprinkle some salt on them and finally add some finely chopped spring onions, chili and cilantro on top of it and eat it as a side dish.

How do you guys add a little excitement to brown rice? I add a little bit of olive oil to the boiling water but I wonder what else might add some flavor to it.
In turkey the woman used to add some small thin pieces of pasta (vermicelli?). That stuff tasted heavenly, although she probably added other spices too.
idk, brown rice is really tasty to me so i dont see the need to mess with it too much. the earthiness goes well with egg, so you could beat in an egg as its done cooking, or just do it the japanese way and put it in after for a raw egg and rice mix. i use vegeta seasoning to some degree for almost everything i cook and that goes wonderfully too.
other things i think go well with brown rice include butter, pepper, and dill. if you like oils, you may want to play around with sesame oil on it.
Try adding in some green tea.
It gives it an interesting and pleasant flavour.
Whats the hottest pepper you've ever tried? What recipes do you use them in?
Have tried habaneros before, and they're pretty useful for adding heat to meals. Though, anything higher than that, you'd probably just taste nothing but pain.

they have a weird flavor so i don't use them but they work ok if you use them to add spice to a sweet sauce.
I've eaten a whole a ghost pepper before. Ate the whole thing whole, it tinged my tongue a little bit but it wasn't all that spicy. Seriously wtf the hype is so fake on those.

quick question about slow cooker.
i want to cook food tonight so i can wake up tomorrow and eat.
is it safe to run my slow cooker for probably 12+ hours? the food i will put in will be 5 lbs of chicken thighs, a shit ton of carrots, celery, onions, and probably either chicken broth or beef broth
will it dry up and burn like shit or will i be good?
will it taste good or will it be all rubbery and shit?
i just dont feel like having to wake up tomorrow and cook around 10 a.m. and have to wait until 4.

12+ hours is a bit of overkill, even on low. Make sure to add a little chicken stock to keep things moist, and the most I would do would be 10 hours.

12 hours on keep warm setting (lower than low) is going to give you fall apart pulled chicken.
If you leave the veggies and other stuff in there, its going to disintegrate.
If you are making something like a potroast, you let the shit cook for about 4 hours before you throw the auxiliary shit in, to cook for another hour before its done.
You arent going to be pleased if you leave it overnight
