Is it okay to substitute baking soda for baking powder if you're cooking but not baking?
No.
>>7882490
Why not? What effect is it going to have?

Just bought a bottle of pic related for 32 bucks. tastes great and claims that its 12 years old. I know the claims on rum can be kind of dodgy and refuse to believe its that smooth without some kind of additive. Anyone know how much sugar is in a bottle of diplomatico reserva exclusivo? I cant find any info anywhere
Swedish government requires a listing of sugar content in rum, this is pulled off their government liquor website.

>Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva 12 Años 41gr/L
That's a lot of fucking sugar
>>7882399
I think smoothness comes from blending with older things as much as this additive theory. I wouldn't worry. If you like drinking it, continue on.
NO ONE drinks rum and worries about sugar. It's a sugar drink. If you are overly worried about your carbs or your hangovers, and you drink like a fish, you switch to vodka and lighten up your mixers. It's as simple as that.
>>7882452
solid point, i guess even the most sugary rums have less sugar by volume than coca cola
post your favorite ramen
Not everything needs to be a general. General culture is cancer. Just start a thread asking about ramen brands if you need to start yet another thread about ramen.
>>7882325
That's not ramen, that's yakisoba, genius
>>7882335
This. I mean it even says what it is on the package. OP confirmed for dipshit
recently i had some weed and started eating pistachios.
midway through the pack and each pistachio started getting tastier and tastier until eating them became a really euphoric experience.
i dont eat pistachios regularly so i dont know if it was the weed or because pistachios are awesome, but has anyone else ever experienced this kind of sensation of wonder just from the taste of a food
>>8912731
It happened to my friend's once, he starter crying after eating a cheeseburguer
>>7882318
I don't smoke weed and have experienced the same phenomenon.
Pistachios are just amazing.
>>7882330
>Pistachios are just amazing.
yeah i mean its a bitch opening each one (and if you find a store with no-shell pistacios its usually an outrageous price). but the amount of flavor in that little peanut sized core is huge
Out to dinner with mother:
>Pumpkin ravioli? How exotic!
>Anon, what's "sriracha aioli"? I don't usually like foreign stuff
>You want to go for ramen? But you can make that at home for 50 cents!
Who else /flyover/ here?
How much was mommy's bill?
>>7882313
>But you can make that at home
My mother tells me this every time I take her out, then she proceeds to order the chicken tendies.

Is there any food on earth you believe is worth dying for?
You can't take it with you, anon.
the only thing worth dying for is your country
Meat. The day my cardiologist tells me I need to stop eating pork and beef for the sake of my heart is the day I accept the reality I'm going to die very soon. And I will happily dine like a king until that day comes.
why is coffee so based
Cause it's chill brah

What do i do with the yolk when i use egg white to bread chikin?
>>7881963
use it as an emulsifier :
- salad dressing
- mayo
- buttery yolk water
if i'm using several whites, i'll beat the yolks in with a complete egg or two and make extra-yolky scrambled eggs.
when i needed a dozen egg whites for an angel food cake, i made lemon curd with the yolks.
if it's only one yolk, i'd probably just throw it away. eggs are incredibly inexpensive.

What the fuck is this?
hello /ck/, i get up really early for work and need some ideas for breakfast. something i can heat up and eat, i cant cook anything cause it will be to loud

Hey /ck/, my parents let me come over to their place and housesit for a week. They told me I had full access to their pantry and kitchen, so I'll be asking for suggestions often.
First up is this pork loin, with dollar for size. How do I prepare it without making it all dry? I just thawed it in a tub of hot water.
>thawed it in a tub of hot water
heheheh
>>7881693
Well you already fucked it up a bit by thawing in hot water instead of cold water.
Easiest way? Slice pretty thin, from pic it would be slicing in half. If you have seasoned salt, toss it on. Otherwise salt and pepper always works. Get a pan nice and hot, toss pork in. Brown for about 3-4 min one side. Flip over, toss in a chunk of butter. Use a spoon to put butter on top of pork. Cook for another 5 or so minutes. Done
>I just thawed it in a tub of hot water.
Pham.
I'm thinking of taking something like this to /int/ but I hate /int/ and this is food related.
Anyway, I've been indulging my inner slav, blin! Watching lots of life of boris! Hes been using an estonian mustard called "sinep". That may be how you say mustard in estonian even, but I don't care. Anyway, I can't even find this on Amazon or a mock recipe to it on any site, but from what Boris say, is concentrated, blyat! If you have experience, recipes, or any info on this I'd love to hear it
Otherwise, I'm up for discussing other slav food/food products or other products we can't seem to find in out own countries.
For instance, one other thing I can't find in my country is called "table syrup" which sounds like a molasses based syrup used in shoofly pie
Dude I read like 20 words in your post and just stopped. I don't know what it is but something in your post just destroyed my will to keep reading on.
>and people complain about weebs
>>7881710
Are Slavs the new weebs?
Okay so I just got this beauty for a steal (pre-2015 model, $100). What's next?
My list includes:
A used Iberital MC2, Gaggia MDF, Baratza Encore/Precisio, or other electric grinder. Price used, must be under $100
Proper metal tamper
Bottomless Portafilter (are these a meme or do they actually work?)
VST or other similarly good basket (same question as above)
I'll also be looking into the various mods: OPV, water pre-heater, PID, Pressure gauge etc.
What do you think?
Also, Espresso general thread.
>>7881670
>are these a meme or do they actually work?
what do you mean "work"? they don't improve your cofee if that's what your asking. it's more useful as a tool to see if you are tamping correctly and for timing shots. you should prioritize a non-pressurized portafilter basket that will fit your machine. as that will give you better control over your shots
>>7881847
also swap out the steam wand for one without the pannarello (i.e. a traditional stainless steel wand)
>>7881856
That's also on my list just really low, because I never drink milk in my coffee.
>>7881847
As far as I know it comes with a non-pressurized portafilter, it looks like this. There are two non-pressurized baskets and one pressurized one in the box.
Bought a cut of fresh, skinless salmon from my grocery store. If I cure it (soak it in bowl of salt water), is it good to use as raw sushi? Will i die?
>>7881537
Yes
>>7881537
No. You'll certainly ruin it though.
>>7881544
Why? Should I cook it instead?
