What about a cyoa where the MC has a rather meager hearst, but since it has only been like two or three years after the princesses have won the war against Sombra, it is the only hearst in town and the MC has to travel around to get his hooves on all kind of items to improve his hearst, so he can provide for his friends/neighbors/family. Or if the players decide they don't want to do that, he could just take his hearst and travel, helping the ponies, maybe use it against some leftover Sombra-sympathizers and improve his hearst that way.

For threshold, we're curently in the same type of spot than the labyrinth. And the point is that there's something we have to do to make the story progress and the best way to do it implies exploring shit until we find something that actually makes sense.
Like that thing on the beach, we got through the messed part a little only to find out the interior is actually messed up too...
Feel sorta like "Well alright... that happens too, I guess, can I do something about it? No? Well let's keep going then"
Now we're onto something that might get things moving, but there was one night where virtually nothing happened, and there wasn't any meaningfull character interaction either.
Although the Dandy/guards interactions is at least entertaining to read
I know it's hard to balance difficulty and action in a quest, but I believe most quest arc(new setting/character/problem) have a better beginning with a bang or a bone.
The bang could have been crashing in the warped zone and having to find our crewmembers and the bone could have been someone telling us their kid got lost in the warp and wanted us to find it.
By doing this, we would have understood how the place is fucked up but not in a museum tour way.

Character interaction is something I admittedly suck at, though. Aside from some wisecracks between characters and some tried-and-true interactions (like Flash and Flare being a coward and a brave leader), I readily admit that my characterization is pretty shit and I have no clue how to >git gud at it.

A random thought I've been mulling over: There isn't really a way to have a 'party' like in other CYOA's due to how strict the Threshold is with both workers and anomalies. So, instead of that, what if there were different playable characters - say, the ones Dandy befriends? At this point, I guess that that would be Günther, Mini-Squishy, and possibly Foozle. It would make the game less linear and would provide more opportunities for crazy anomaly stuff, containment breaches, etc., but I can think of a few reasons it'd be a bad idea as well... What do you guys think?
