Hello /x/ I am beginning a small collection. I have a few books so far, things like Kybalion, Alchemy and Mysticism.
I'd really appreciate it if you would add your favourite Alchemical and Hermetic books to this thread. I don't have many books but I do read extensively online, but I prefer reading hard copies as it doesn't rape my eyes.
As far as the topic of alchemy is concerned I am more interested in things like the mysterium coniunctionis or the thrysus as opposed to mundane chrysopoeia. Thank you.
I liked Carl Jung's "Alchemical Studies", and idk look up the azoth ritual.

Ok it's getting really creepy. I live in a really old house built in like the 1700s and at night I hear noises like sighs or single words spoken as if there was someone in the room. Sometimes I'll be at my computer and feel something touch the back of my head, or knock on the other side of the wall while I'm laying in bed or touch my feet at the end of the bed.
The weird thing is that nothing ever happens when my dog sleeps in my room. I even lose that eerie feeling too. What's more is that my dog seems to intentionally sleep in my room as well. Even when he falls asleep on the couch (he's getting old, going to be 11 in June), he'll wake up in the middle of the night and come scratch on my door until I open it, and he immediately goes to the bed and settles down to sleep again.
I made this thread because not 20 mins ago I heard what I 'd describe as a sigh of relief out of no where from the other corner of my room, clear as day through my headphones. Not minute later my dog comes in to my room and sleeps in here.
What the hell is going on? Is my house haunted? By what exactly?

Until a few days ago I would call that storie bullshit but since I've heard voices at work I will believe you.
A non spooky reason could be that you Imagine things (Taking wrong meds etc.) and your dog gives you a feel of safetiness.

Stairs in the woods. Are these stories corroborated by anything at all, or is it just some reddit-tier roleplay?
When I was in the Army I spent a lot of solo time out in the woods. Primarily because the most cost-efficient skill educating military training in existence is land navigation, but I had various other causes to be out there as well. So whenever I found odd structures out in the woods, not just the odd staircase, I wrote it off to government efficiency.
Now, I've always felt something like an affinity for the woods. I never spent much time in them growing up, as my childhood forest was cut down for a housing development. My real exposure came after I joined the military. To my surprise I had a real knack for finding things in the forest. Most of the time I felt completely at home and knew exactly where I was and where I needed to go with just a cursory look over my map. Now, there were times where something didn't "feel" right and I knew I shouldn't be in there any longer than I needed to be. None of these "odd" feelings came around strange structures. (Except once when I found something I'm still 90% sure was a small burial cairn during a combat exercise, and there was the time I accidentally bellyflopped onto one of Ft. Lewis' infamous ant mounds, different stories.)

At some point I started being able to get something like a sense for the environment I was in. Some notable examples:
A well-visited national park we went to for a change of pace. The woods felt well-worn and harried. Out in the middle of nowhere, miles from anyone else, I still felt the sensation like someone was just nearby. It felt like a muted version of being in a city. This is also where I crawled headfirst into a thicket that a Lynx had taken for it's den. At night. Ever seen a Lynx in the light of a red lens flashlight?
I went on a winter hike on my own a couple of years ago. Everything was so quiet and serene and I spent the entire walk feeling like I was intruding somewhere I shouldn't have been. Not very noteworthy, but it was the clearest I had ever felt I guess the "energy" of the woods for lack of a better term.
This example is, theoretically, biased. Land navigation exercise in a piece of woodland in which a soldier had hung himself in the trees in an intentional suicide. I saw the news report and a good friend of mine was on the search team that went looking for him. Thing is, I never felt really anything from those woods. They were just a place. No "energy" to them. Gorgeous, to be sure, but nothing more. Not creepy, not foreboding. Nothing.
Last and best example next.
An old, old National Guard post that was bigger than any National Guard post has a right to be. Right up until Vietnam it was a ammunition depot and most of the ancient rotting storage and production sheds were still standing. For many reasons, I think some seriously bad shit went down there. First of all was the sensation. I didn't want to be in those woods and I didn't want anyone else going in them either. Complete, horrible unease for all the time I spent in them. Paranoia, anxiety, frustration. It's hard to describe without cliches. Second was the fact that everything was thorned. Every tree, vine, and grass thicket had these thick sharp thorns covering their surface. So adding to the sense of unease, you felt like the forest itself was trying to get your ass out of there. Lastly was the way the animals behaved. I've never seen as many wild animals as I did there, and they always seemed to be trying to get somewhere else. Like they were trying to find a way out but they just kept hitting the base fences. They would come barreling out of the woodline, see us, slow considerably, and give us a wide berth as they moved to the next patch of forest. Mostly deer, but also packs of wild dogs. It happened at least once a day in the week I spent there. I've never seen animals act like that in the wild.
So that's my experience with the woods. I want to believe that this kind of stuff is for real, but my only real encounters have been sensations if nothing else. Specifically though, I'm interested in the staircases. I was under the impression that multiple sources corroborated the "staircase in the woods" stories, but so far it's just been that reddit shit.

World's first exhibition of library and possessions of famous occultist John Dee

A never seen before selection from 100 surviving books once owned by the man will go on display in "Scholar, courtier, magician: The lost library of John Dee" at the Royal College of Physicians in January. Dee’s library was once one of the finest private libraries in Europe and today the RCP holds the largest known collection of works formerly owned by him, which have never been publicly displayed together before.
Joining the treasure trove will be a selection of Dee’s possessions. From the collection of the British Museum comes a crystal ball for conversing with spirits, a ‘magic disc’ for contacting angels and ‘magical mirror’ for conjuring visions. From the Science Museum is a ‘scrying mirror’ for predicting the future and John Dee’s own crystal, which he claimed was given to him personally by the angel Uriel. Dee is most well known to students of the occult as one of the fathers, along with Edward Kelley, of the Enochian school of ritual magic.
Scholar, courtier, magician: The lost library of John Dee is at the museum of the Royal College of Physicians in London from January 18th to July 29th of this year. The exhibition and museum are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Admission is free.

Oldest-known Jurassic dinosaur species discovered in Wales
Researchers from the University of Portsmouth, University of Manchester and National Museum Wales have discovered a new species of dinosaur believed to be the oldest known Jurassic-period creature of its kind ever discovered in the UK. The new species, which was discovered in southern Wales, was named Dracoraptor hanigani, a name selected to honor the country’s national symbol, the dragon, the research team explained in a statement. The first part of the name, Dracoraptor, means “dragon robber,” while the hanigani part was selected to recognize the men who discovered the fossils, Nick and Rob Hanigan.
Based on their analysis of the fossils, paleobiologist Dr. David Martill and his colleagues have placed Dracoraptor hanigani at the beginning of the Jurassic Period, about 201 million years ago. These fossils are the most complete theropod ever discovered in Wales, according to the researchers, and could even be among the oldest known Jurassic dinosaurs in the UK, or even the world.
Dr John Nudds, from The University of Manchester, said, “It’s pretty rare to discover a completely new dinosaur species – in fact this is only the fourth one to be discovered in the UK since 1980."

Deep crevice revealed at bottom of Loch Ness
Previously, the UK's second largest loch, Loch Ness, was measured at 813 feet deep. But 43-year-old tourist boat skipper Keith Stewart has found a crevice about nine miles east of Inverness and he has measured it with state of the art sonar equipment at 889 feet.
Said Stewart, "I measured it with our state of the art 3D equipment at 889 feet, which is 77 feet deeper than the previous recorded deepest point called Edwards' Deep. I don't yet know how long it is, but I have gone back several times over the abyss and I have verified my measurements. It gets deeper from 825 feet to the recorded depth. It is only about a few hundred yards offshore whereas previous sonar searches have traditionally been down the middle of the loch."
It is possible that an underwater earthquake opened this anomaly in recent times; Loch Ness lies along the Great Glen fault, a portion of a larger fault that stretches from Canada to Norway. As recently as 2013, there has been a low magnitude earthquake along the fault and the Loch - a year, coincidentally, during which no sightings of the Loch Ness monster were reported.

I'm not certain how I should start, but here we go:
Every single girl I ever loved or was at the very least involved in an intimate relationship is now dead. If I was 90 years old that would not be surprising, but I'm 24 and all my girlfriends were around my age. The love of my life died of an aneurysm complication. I was lying on my back, naked and all around me I could see other naked men. I felt a slight chill as I saw a figure move between the people, standing upright, gracefully gliding between them. It was a pale young nude woman with long black hair, reaching her thighs. Her ribs were showing under the skin, but she was not very skinny and had a very appealing body. To this very day I remember her face only as a blur. She passed around the guys and stopped in front of me, kneeling down and grabbing my cock. I woke up in cold sweat, but aroused as fuck.
