Honestly after playing Gen 2 again recently I've noticed a HUGE lack of pokemon early on. Like up until the 8th badge or so, there really aren't alot of pokemon for you to choose from or catch. Seriously, playing the game over again, you kind of have to take the same pokes since most of them suck and there are very little to choose from that are decent.
That's my main problem with gen 2, just a lack of variety in pokemon before the second set of badges. It's extremely annoying as I love the pacing and progression of the game's story but the lack...

I prefer to use only my starter besides catching a few tool Pokémon for HM use.

Same. My 3rd or 4th run a decade ago had me trying Noctowl instead of Pidgey, Hoppip instead of Bellsprout, etc but they all seem lacklustre. Even if you take into consideration Hoppip has a different role, it doesnt matter much when you dont have access to a full movepool yet while your opponents have good sets. I never finished the run.
Same thing with gen 3 and 4. The problem is the starters are too strong compared to everything else. No need to bother with shitmons when you have a beast like swampert or infernape for example

Every evening my rank falls to ~150 and every morning it goes back to ~40. They do a good job deleting the cheaters' scores.

So, I'm kinda bored and I feel like messing around with a Pokemon Emerald rom. Kind of do a BlazeBlack/VoltWhite esque thing. I know Hoenn is pretty popular and I like Emerald so, I mean, why not eh?
What would you want to see out of this? I'm mostly looking for suggestions like, how a Pokemon should be edited and what teams should NPCs like Maxie and Wally have?

Depending how much work you want to do, a complete plot revision would be neat.

I might have to refresh my memory on scripting, but making more/new puzzles could be a hell load of fun. And increasing the difficulty of capturing legendaries would be easy to do as well.
I've hacked Fire Red numerous times before and played around with Emerald roms in the past. I know it's time consuming but I don't get bored of it.

This game serious is so disgustingly unbalanced now. Seriously, why does anyone still play this game competitively? Ye olde Gen 4/5 days were pretty good. Weather was a little too good in Gen 5, but it was still pretty fun and there were more options available to you. Tiers can only do so much, man.
So what's your excuse /vp/? Why do you continue to slave away, playing such a disastrously unbalanced game competitively?
