I joined the modding communities of quake, hl1, and hl2 on day-fucking-one. I was a kiddo when I started, so I grew up modding. I have over 10 years of modding under my belt. I turned a hobby into a profession and now I work in the industry because of my work with mods.
If you don't think modders getting paid for their work isn't the hottest fucking shit to hit the industry in years, then you are a fucking retard. Plain and simple.
We'll never get a second golden age of modding. Its simply too much work these days to make good mods. But paid mods? Paid mods are going to be the closest thing we'll ever get to a second golden age.

That sounds dumb. Animal Crossing's themes are similar to HM, but the game play and draw points wouldn't work if they swapped time mechanics.
I want a much larger village with nice cliffs and crazy, cool ramps with 15 villagers, like the first game. I also think it would be really cool if you could swim in the river to collect fossils, or some type of cave area where you could mine ore and collect creepy blind cave bugs/fish.
I've been modding since starcraft at age 9, and over all I've worked on maybe 800 mods in my life. Sometimes small shit like bug testing, sometimes entire standalones. As far as I'm concerned modding is the best thing about pc gaming; graphics come and go but we're talking about thousands of hours of content, for free.
After everything I've learned about modding and the modding community I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that what valve is doing right now will kill modding.
Think about the guy that made SKSE for example; every worthwhile skyrim mod uses SKSE. How much do you think the creator of SKSE is going to be compensated when someone uses his mod for their mod and makes thousand of dollars? Not a single cent. How do you think that's going to make him feel? Why would he even bother to support his mod anymore when people are making thousands of dollars off his hard work? He won't.
Modders are already pulling their mods from nexus to make money off steam.
