Yes, the gunplay is easily the best in the series and the perks are streamlined so it's the best game to start the fallout series with. But it's popular so don't expect much love on /v/

Because the Wii's documentation leaked which could be used to make educated guesses about the GameCube as well. Same with PSP and that explained why PSP emulation became so good.
PS2 documentation never leaked so they're still working blind.
PS2 is more complex than the GC, the PCSX2 project doesn't have nearly as many contributors, and the one or two guys working on it regularly only have a hazy idea of what they're doing. Plus, the guy working on the OGL video plugin is a Nvidia fangirl so it runs like utter dicks on AMD and the D3D plugin has been abandoned for ages.

I only play Merrills because they don't use bots and they're the only server that's not in fucking Nigeria so I get a good ping.
I wouldn't go all the way to defend some of the things this game does, but holy fuck, it is not as bad as most people make it out to be. This game basically reminded me how cancerous the nostalgia babies are in the Final Fantasy community. How do we fix this fanbase?

True. It really isn't as bad as people say.
I personally picked it up for dirt cheap couple years ago, despite having heard all sorts of shit about it.
The BEGINNING really didn't even try to prove all the bad claims about it wrong, but luckily, to my own surprise as well, the more I played, the more entertaining and hooking it became. It's not GOTYAY or best JRPG ever in any sense, but it's FAR from the "worst crap ever" -category. A solid 7/10 experience IMO.
The sequels fixed, expanded and improved many things, especially pacing and gameplay. Up to you whether you like the direction they went with the plot and cast, but they're not hideous either. I found especially LR to be total blast, easily my 2014's GOTY. The 13-2 was simply fun.
