If you want to min-max then keep auto-level off and don't level your main character until you leave Taris. The game's easy enough that you don't need to min-max though.
Each planet is basically its own self-enclosed questline under the context of a broader overarching plot. Take it slow instead of trying to rush through it all at once. Think of each planet as its own individual film. Enjoy them individually instead of trying to marathon them all at once.
Do Tatooine and Kashyyk first because that's where you pick up your last party members, plus you unlock a significantly long sidequest on Manaan if you do it after Kashyyk. Save Korriban for last, it's best that way.

I vote to Tatooine first, it has a good mix of easy and loot drops. It's probably the quickest way to get a short lightsaber for your off hand if you are dual wielding.
