Seriously, what happened? How did it turn out to be so lifeless? I can think of two things that would've made this game great. Yet, there's so much missing or poorly handled ideas, that it just doesn't make any sense.

Is pacing the single most underrated element a video game can posess? Look at Binding of Isaac for example - it's tedious as hell to explore the floor and go back and forth through rooms, especially when most of the game devolves into a skinner box simulation. But on the other side, game takes several seconds to go from double click to start playing. Most developers neglect that the game should start near-instantly in order for the player not to feel dread if he wants to continue and endure several minutes of logos, menus and loading screens. Even if the graphics need to be downgraded, TECHNOLOGY is all that matters and it's not tied to visual fidelity.
Maybe. People keep trashing MW2's campaign for having a ridiculous story or for being four hours long but compared to other CoD campaigns and compared to most modern shooters, its pacing is superb and I never see anyone give it due credit.
I don't think it's a big deal, but since you mentioned developer/publisher/etc. logos, CoD games are among the very few multiplatform games where they're all skippable. Recent games even allow you to choose which menu the game will immediately load upon starting, whether it's the campaign, multiplayer or zombies menu.

Yes, definitely. Poor pacing is absolutely what killed The Last of Us for most of /v/.
In the beginning it's boring and slow and just all around dull. There's no denying that. Then later on the pacing is absolutely perfect. It oscillates from high tempo to low tempo so precisely you could set a clock to it.
However, most people who hate the game quite fairly quit less than halfway in because it doesn't get really good until Fall.

Which of the three was the best sequel? Think in terms of new mechanics it brought to the table - whether good or bad - how they compare to their predecessors, and how they improved or did not improve over them.

Going commando definitely improved over the prequel in every way, sly 2 was really good but was a bit more repetitive than the previous, jak 2 i think is the worst naughty dog jak games honestly, there was alot of bullshit in the mission structure and the driving controls were abysmal.

Even by the low standards of Sonic this has to be one of the most incompetent platformers I've ever played. I don't even know why there's a run button since you have it glued down all the time because walking is worthless in nearly every situation, even precise platforming.

It added so much more depth to the gameplay to require you to think about which homing attack type you needed to use to kill a certain enemy
I especially liked the part where I spent over half of the game not realising the second homing attack did anything different and wasted an entire set of lives trying to use the regular homing attack on those spiders at different timings thinking it would do something different

Dark Souls is the single deepest, most challenging, most skill-based game ever created. There is not a single other game in any genre that comes close to the level of skill Dark Souls requires.
This is why Dark Souls threads are the best, most intelligent threads on /v/. Only the smartest, brightest, and most patient people post in them. Essentially, the very best of humanity posts in them.
Conversely, the only people who don't like Dark Souls clearly don't have the skills to handle its depth. It is too hardcore for them. That's okay though. Games like Halo exist for people like them. Dark Souls Hunter fans are too good to hold grudges.

I actually didn't have much trouble with the early game La Mulana. Easy until I got through three worlds without there being a single thing I could interact with. I'm sure it gets tougher late game but I can't be bothered.

By some circumstances that are too convoluted to explain, I've recently come into possession of a Playstation 4.
Im a huge Nintendo fan because Nintendo games are generally a little more innovative in concept (when they decide to roll with a new concept), but provided these new circumstances I'm a little lost.
What games would you recommend a Nintendo fan play in transition to the PS4.
If it helps at all, my favorites are the Pikmin series, Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Galaxy, any and all Legend of Zelda..

There was a raffle that a bunch of my friends and I entered and we ended up winning the PS4, then there was this big fight about who was going to keep it and no one could agree, so they gave it to me I guess because I was the least involved in the fight, so people just come to my place to play it now.
