Why is this so popular. I went into it with an open mind and I got absolutely nothing out of it.

The charm is in all the love and details that went into it as well as the unique fourth wall breaking, incredible soundtrack and likeable characters.
If you're the kind of person who doesn't pay attention to any of that, you probably won't like it. But you're a fairly rare specimen.

If you've never heard of mount and blade it is a game where you build and manage a kingdom while fighting for control of the rest of the world. I would compare it to the total war series only instead of controlling your troops from a top down view you issue commands, and fight allong side them

The gameplay is great. Even the Hoshido maps are an improvement compared to Awakening's flatlands. The story for the entirety of the game is terrible though. The terrible localization just exacerbates it.
