So we are about 2.5 years into the new consoles and look at how many games there are. What in the fuck is happening? Why are there so fucking few games, not even just exclusives, coming out for these new systems. This is probably halfway through their lifespan as well. I doubt they'll go on as long as ps3 and 360 did. I give them 5-6 years. So tell me, why at the halfway point are there so few games? Is it because every game company is trying to make a massive blockbuster and it's taking way to long and when the game comes out it just turns out to be decent at best? Now I'm not asking for shovelware, I'm just asking if we can try a little less hard on making a AAA game that most likely won't sell well or won't actually be triple A and just focus a little more on venturing out into uncharted waters or take some risks?
Please no console wars, I'm asking about the state of so few games coming out in general for consoles.
I could name plenty of games i've played this gen for handhelds and consoles, but they'd be dismissed as >"weebshit" so I'm not even going to bother.

Independent devs are the only ones willing to take risks, and they mostly release for PC.

Max Payne 1 and 2 always felt dynamic to me, I have often replayed them.
Max Payne 3 had a great gunplay, killing them was satisfying and the animation work they did with it is impressive.
But it was not as replayable as the previous entries, I appreciate the idea of carrying few guns for making him look always "on the run" but for the series it was portraying it meant a step back from the choice you had, the whole "old school" idea of keeping the ammo for when it really counts or being able to waste away or choosing the right tool for the right job.

The unskippable cutscenes, too many of them too, the huge size for a game that was fairly short compared to so many other smaller games, heck Skyrim to name one.
The map design was boring, it felt linear and was mostly linear, unlike in the previous 2 where you had maps where you could move around. They felt more of a real place.

I like it, its one of those maps you can get lost in for hours if you're not careful. But when you do know it you and your friends can skip parts, run directly where you need to be, or just go lava swimming to get attuned.

not wrong, however since it is a type of troop seen in the military, it would make little sense to not have one as well. Imagine if a historically accurate game had a bunch of weapons from WW2, but not a single Mosin-Nagant, or Kar-98k
