It's not usually a good idea to be an early adopter. If you have never used VR before, try to demo it beforehand.
By the time more refined headsets come out, and more games for them, there will be better graphics cards. Why do you need VR now?
If you're doing gaming, you can downgrade your gpu and cpu. An i5 is fine and a 970 or 980 is good for nvidia, or a 290x/390x if you're into amd gpu. Stay far away from amd cpus though
