Why was the original sims so damn comfy? Maybe it was the soundtrack, maybe it was just the fact that it was the first game of its kind most of us ever played. Whatever it was, there was a certain magic to it that future instalments of the series haven't been able to fully capture despite their advancements.

I think being confined to one lot for ~80% of the gameplay helped too. I also think Sims 2 managed to capture a very similar feel to the original Sims. Sims 3 was the first game to truly take it in a new direction with its open world and complete customization. Sims 4 was trying for a easy medium between The original Sims games and Sims 3, but I don't really think it managed it, especially with its awfully lackluster expansions.
I still like all four games in the series.

I played the first one and was able to slowly make my way through without a guide. It still has that common point & click problem of Use everything on everything until something happens.
I didn't even know Yahtzee made it, a friend just recommended it, so I can say without bias that it was decent.
