It's not that I dislike non-linear or non-traditional storytelling or anything like that, but this was just trash. The whole 12 years thing felt like nothing more than a shallow gimmick. And I don't think people should have to lower their expectations just because of how much of a gamble it was to make. I think it is honestly Linklater's worst and deserving of virtually no praise whatsoever.

Yeah it was pretty damn insufferable, I had to start getting really drunk halfway thru just so I could finish watching it.
Didn't even make me feel nostalgic for my own childhood and I'm a 20 year-old white male from a suburban neighborhood. So yeah, I'd say it missed the mark by a long shot.
