you can't say that that palpatine / the empire had an insatiable lust for power, and wanted to control the entire galaxy with the force - in the beginning of ANH tarkin says that the emperor "dismantled" the imperial senate and gave "direct control" to regional governors over their territories. plus he leaves outer rim systems like tatooine alone, despite the fact that he could easily take them by force. was it just to destroy the jedi? it's not like the jedi were the ultimate power - they adhered to the government. but if so, why would anyone join the rebellion? if life is basically the same except the jedi aren't cops anymore, why make a big fuss?
this is somewhat shown in the movie, with the rebel alliance being a dinky operation for the most part, but they aren't fighting to revive the jedi - fuck, i bet only our heroes know about the jedi (which is implied in TFA).
so what was their plan? were the prequels/trade federation a desperate attempt to explain the empire's motives?
why doesn't anything in this franchise make any fucking sense?
