I don't think there's any doubt that you missed the Star Wars general.

The only people who care about that kind of thing are in the /swg/ and they've definitely gone much further than you in those comparisons.

Just finished running a campaign recently, great success, about to start a new one and saw this game pop up, it basically just a more modern shadow of the colossus.
thinking about a more dynamic setting with colossus populating the world, a bunch scattered across the land, some of large size some of enormous, some of extreme, etc...
to the point, what advice would you have for a setting like this? what do you think should be in it? what have you done or seen? what would be a good idea? you get it.
not sure on a system yet, our group is pretty flexible about...

Well, the thing about SotC is that it was a symbolical tale first, and a world being build second.
In other words, it was a story told through environment (and the environment existed solely to serve the story: one about desperation and the tragedy of being unwilling to accept bad shit happening, willing to defile the world itself, and inevitably ending in even more suffering) not a story OF the environment.
So I think if you want to emulate SotC, you really need to know what are you wanting to TELL your placers. What kind of meaning is hidden at the bottom of the world.
In SotC, in very simplified manner: the Colossi represent insurmountable adversity you will encounter when you are not willing to accept the world as it is.
What should the Colossi mean in your world?
That is how I would go about creating settings and campaign like you want.
But I'm also a pretentious git, so there is that.
>>48189599
i love what you're saying, this is really good advice actually, ill keep this in mind.
i did however miss a very key detail in my first post, I'm not trying to run a SotC campaign, i just want a game where there are colossus commonly throughout the land. and am looking for advice on how to make that kind of world more interesting.
I do extremely apologize, i should have made this clearer. i will however remember this when i start working on the story of this game.

>I do extremely apologize, i should have made this clearer. i will however remember this when i start working on the story of this game.
Nothing to apologize for, I actually kinda projected that into your post myself.
As for making a world populated by colossi interesting, one thing that springs to mind to me is that the world IS colossi, just of varying shapes and degrees of size, Some so old that they became (almost) immovable and literally became the land, others, younger and...

I've been making a Character Sheet for a custom D&D campaign.
What do you think about it?
It's still a work in progress.
I'm considering the Layout for magic and equipment. I want to make it a 2 page thing if possible.
>>48189562
Looks awful.
>>48189656
Care to explain?
I'm doing my best with Openoffice.
We just finished our penultimate session of DnD with my group. We spent the whole session fighting a boss that could bend reality, and was implied to know about the 4th wall.
A couple of sessions before, our DM asked us to email us a exact copy of our character sheets (he would later use the copies we sent him to print them off for us). We thought nothing of it, and went on.
The fight was amazing, and it turned into some of the best RPing I've seen. I won't waste your guy's time with details, but finally the boss went 'Final Form' mode. I was next in initiative, and went for an attack. I missed, and the DM claimed the boss basically reached into me, and pulled out a white ball. At that point, he took my character sheet and torn the item in two. The boss at the same time, torn the ball of light in two. The DM then said I was unable to move, or fight back, and I was basically a vegetable. Throughout this part of the fight, which took an hour, this basically ended up happening to every member. We all got pretty miffed and was pulling "What the hell, DM?" shit out.
We ended up being able to communicate with one another, and we actually forced ourselves back into existence. The DM handed us the sheets he copied off and we ended up beating the boss, long story short.
I run a seperate group, and would like to eventually do something like this, but I'm afraid the 'ripping' of the character sheets will cause people to rage. What do you think, /tg/?
Also, awesome boss fights you've had with your group thread
>>48189069
It will absolutely cause rage if your players don't trust you perfectly. Sounds like you guys really trusted him and it almost did anyway. This sounds really cool but it's almost always a bad idea to try shit like this.
>>48189169
This.
Don't pull it if any of your players have ever had anger management problems.
>At that point, he took my character sheet and torn the item in two.
Jesus Christ. I would have beaten the shit out of my DM.
I don't even know what it is, but there's something about that super smug fucking look on his face that I could imagine him making when he ripped up my sheet that makes me want to beat the living shit out of him.
It's the dead of night. Let's talk about Ravenloft.
I've always wanted to run this setting but I have some questions that I hope you can help me with.
1. Best edition of D&D to play it with? Is there a better system to use in general?
2. Might just be me but the elves, dwarves, etc seem shoehorned in due to the setting being a D&D product. Am I mistaken?
3. Anyone have tips for running it, playing it, and evoking the proper spirit of the game?
And of course general discussion is welcome.
>>48188779
1. Whatever edition you prefer. Just take the fluff of the 2e and or 3e or 5e and apply to fave edition.
2. The setting is by and large human centric (with some exceptions) and it can sometimes feel ill-fitting for a demihuman to show up since the whole scare factor stems from non human monsters running around but the mists just swallowing up random adventurers from across the d&d multiverse and spitting them up in the demi plane of dread for a weekend in hell has been a thing since well before Ravenloft...

Now, hear me out, but why is it that people say that X-Wing is comparable to games like 40k, infinity or Warmachine? X-Wing is nothing like any of those games, and is more like heroclix than a true wargame. Theres no core rulebook, no movement aside from templates, lacking in the hobbying aspect, and other huge differences. All im saying is, is that X-Wing is more like a Boardgame than a truetable top game
>>48188111
>Theres no core rulebook
Yes there is. It's just not very big.
>no movement aside from templates
It only counts as movement if you use a tape measure?
>lacking in the hobbying aspect
Painting isn't required, but plenty of people still do it. Pic related.
>>48188111
It's comparable in the same way GURPS, WoD and D&D are comparable, or YGO MTG and Hearthstone, to an outsider they are essentially identical, to an inside they have nothing in common.
>>48188111
It's a wargame because it has listbuilding, multiple unique factions, and is about war.
Ok /tg/, I've got a question about naming things/groups/beings in games you run.
What is better/worse:
>Naming things titles or such:
>The Risen
>The Whisperer
Or
>Made up fantasy alternative names:
>The Ilyrians
>Marrok (also called the whisperer)
The titles thing can sound kind of dumb if you do it too much, but it does generate a good image of...

giving thing titles like "the risen" isn't too bad you just have to watch for the pitfall of calling things something too common in fantasy or your players are liable to connect the two when you don't want them to. on the other hand naming a religion Illy'flkahdkean causes another problem of no one caring enough to learn how to pronounce the name and giving it a stupid nickname.
Both work to a degree, but I think titles work better when your saying things out loud. Names based in pretend languages or whatever might make sense, but tend to sound kind of awkward when you aren't just reading them. I might be biased since I live in a place where locations are mostly combinations of things like mount, forest, lake, park, or similar words like that
I usually reserve fantasy naming convention for character/family names and just assume locations have a convenient name in your own language
>>48187819

Played legacy first time couple of days ago at casual event at my LGS. Played with friends manaless dredge, fun as hell, went 2-2. And its pretty cheap, under 150€ for whole thing, even less as I have some pieces of it alredy. Gonna sell some of standard crap i've got and order it up.
How bad person am I for playing it? It seems that most people think I should just kill myself, pretty much same as when I go play modern with my 8rack. Also, what good utility should I fill SB with? Mindbreak Trap seems good against storm-based decks and maybe Iona as a reanimation...

Anyone wanna share their experiences with Villa Zheng proxies? I've read a few people claim they've been deckchecked at Comp REL and didn't get caught.
Is it possible at all to run a non-shitty, non-overpowered, non-homebrew vampire pc in 3.5? Or are my hopes in vain?
The 3.5 vampire template is decidedly overpowered (as are most/all undead), so only if you cripple yourself.
>>48185752
Honestly the only "op" thing about it is the potential cheese from create spawn and the fast healing. I don't get how it's worth +8.
>>48185811
>Honestly the only "op" thing about it is the potential cheese from create spawn
It's not even unintentional.
The text itself says "a master vampire can control a number of lesser vampires in this fashion", giving tacit approval of this battle strategy.
A vampire is a continuously growing aggregate of NPCs bowing to one will.

What's funny is that Urotsukidoji has a pretty interesting setting for a CoC, WoD or Nemesis game.

If you don't have dice you can hunt ebay or you can use a D6
Sustained Fire Die: Use a D3 except a 6 is a misfire
(1-2) = 1, (3-4) = 2, (5) = 3, (6) = Jam
Artillery Die (For Stikkbombz) use a D6 where a 6 is a misfire and 1-5 are inches scatter.

I've seen it around, but never read anything on/about it. What can you tell me about the AGE system? The setting looks a little Sword & Sandals from the artwork, is that true? I'm potentially intrigued
>>48181785
The AGE system is 3d6 vs Target Number.
Doubles get you a 'stunt' that allows you to have expanded combat/magic options based on one of your pre-designated dice (called 'Stunt Die').
I don't know much Swords & Sandals, but this is more or less as 'Generic Fantasy' as it gets, one of the flaws is that the core book doesn't have shit in the way of monsters, but the Bestiary just dropped so there's plenty of potential fluff there.
There are 3 classes,...
