are low fantasy settings necessarily less interesting than high fantasy ones?
It just requires more skill to pull off. In these settings, magic is rare, frighting and mysterious. High Fantasy ones are usually theme parks.

“Bad dreams,” you sigh, looking past your contented dogfish and into the shadowed recesses of your living room, strewn with the cardboard boxes that contain the sum total of your life. There's a diploma in there, and a binder with your accolades, and someplace, somewhere, a little velvet box that never left your pocket.
“I could be bounded in a nutshell and count myself a king of infinite space......

“Aren't they cute?” she says with a smile, balancing a foot on her toes like a model showing off a new shoe. “And they're so comfortable and fluffy~”
“So,” you mumble. “Sleepwalking.”
Her face falls, and she hugs herself again. “Yeah.”
“That's usually linked to dreams,” you tell her.
“... yeah,” she says, much quieter this time.
You watch the blue flames flicker and dance under the percolator, the ghostly radiance eerily familiar as it plays over the counter and reflects off the polished side of the fridge. You twist the stove lamp's dial, but it's a simple on/off, not a dimmer. The slow, hollow ticking of heating metal and the subdued surresations of the air conditioning are the only sounds.

The party was charging into a royal ball to stop a poisoning attempt on their patron (a duke and about sixth in line for the throne, for whom they worked as private agents). It started as a fight on the rooftop when they were prevented from entering without an invitation. So they went over the fence and planned to use the roof, but a dispel rune caught them and killed the invisibility, starting the fight with the guards that hamstrung them because they had to stay nonlethal.
While dueling on top of the glass skylight, one of the players, the Magus, happened to look down and with a stupidly high Perception result (~33 or something) saw the duke speaking with the countess they thought was a vampire (she wasn't) and poisoner (she was).
So he wanted to shatter the (magically hardened) glass, leap down, swing off the chandelier to avoid the fall damage from the straight drop, and save their patron.
Unfortunately he flubbed the roll. He broke the glass, cracked his face on the chandelier and then fell into the buffet table before impaling his shoulder on stag antlers. Ironically the stag had been killed by the party when they accompanied their patron on the hunt earlier that day.
On the bright side, the commotion and abrupt halt to the festivities meant that the duke wasn't poisoned that night.

Fulgrim's story wouldn't have worked without a complete fall from his nigh-unreachable prior status. If Chaos hadn't gotten a hold of him, he'd simply be the biggest Mary Sue in an entire setting of Mary Sues. As it stands, he's an excellent tragic figure.

Hello /tg/!
In this thread, you are invited to post a trauma that has occurred in your life, real or imagined, and in compensation, you will receive a thematically appropriate superpower.
The point of this is in order to easily generate interesting and personally fitting powersets for superhero RP. I'm personally operating off the Worm/Weaver Dice power philosophy but you are free to adapt what you receive to your system of choice.
Remember that when sharing, the "trigger event" as it were where you gain your abilities stems from the absolute...

When I was 13 I witnessed my step-grandmother deliberately trying to get my grandfather to overdose on his pills by convincing him that he hadn't taken them yet that day after reloading his pill caddy. My parents refused to believe me. He was dead within a week of a badly covered up poisoning. Short of pre-emptive murder I did everything that a 13 year old could do to stop it from happening.
I got badly burned and lost a limb (and some other things) from running into a building fire some years ago.

Thinker
You have gained the ability to discern falsehoods and deception instantaneously, and work backwards to perceive intent of the deception you catch in the first place. This also gives you the ability to become a consummate liar if you so desire, using your ability to discern exactly what it is the subject might want to hear. Essentially your ability makes you the perfect liar and lie detector. This is a Thinker class power because you underwent intense mental strain in a condensed period of time. Also...

Mahana must be hard pressed if the best he can manage is a stalemate, you don't doubt that involving yourself carries an inherent degree of risk. However, the rewards could be great indeed. The agreement you worked out with Mahana upon his initial conquest of Anthus means that unless you can successfully launch a counterattack on the Water spirit's realm, you are not guaranteed an artifact. However, you're sure that Mahana would be more than willing to compensate you for your assistance in any number of ways.
Actually, come to think of it, you suppose launching an invasion of the water spirit's realm would be enough to earn you an artifact. You wouldn't need to participate nor would the invasion need to be a success for you to satisfy the terms of your agreement. Perhaps, if the opportunity presented itself, you could slip into the rival spirit's realm and help Mahana launch an invasion of his own, to turn the tables so to speak. It would even make sense on a purely tactical level, so hopefully would not seem self-serving.
“I might offer my assistance repelling this invader, if Mahana would have it.” You announce, after brief deliberation. “Though I am less eager to bring my son along. No doubt his help would prove invaluable, but I fear for his safety in a realm torn by war.”
The human woman, you should probably get her name at some point, eyes Zahak warily. “I have spent much of the last week locked in combat against the dragons plaguing Anthus, I know exactly how useful it would be to have one of them on our side. No doubt my patron would generously reward you both if you were to help us.”
(1/3)
You're about to respond, but the stirring of Zahak's thoughts interrupt your own. There is a vague sense of triumph tempered by confusion and weariness. You think he was probably successful but get the impression he had a difficult time of it. What memory could your son have rediscovered? He's only been alive a short while, you can't imagine he's accumulated very many.
Mahana's disciple flinches when Zahak opens his mouth in a wide yawn, displaying a row of sharp, dagger-like teeth. He certainly does have a lot of them, though you note a...

Voting to heading back to Nazir
After over half a year of bloody fighting we have more or less won the war against the Pajit Empire - their capital has run out of supplies and will to fight, the emperor was deposed by his cousin. The imperial court, led by the new emperor, Banagar, left the city and offered their unconditional surrender to our forces. We have taken them into custody, but the siege of Vajni continues.

What shall we do now that the pajit government has surrendered itself?
Vajni is one of the three largest cities in the world, its population before the war was over half a million people - within the walls there is almost no food left. The riots have ended as people now fight for their own survival against each other, most of the garrison has abandoned its duty and formed gangs that hold what little supplies remain.
A.Starve out the city completely before moving in to purge it - none shall survive
B.Move our forces into the city and occupy it, restore order
C.Move into the city and burn it down
D.Bring the Pajit rulers to the table and begin dictating our terms
Some maps before the players arrive, I guess

Gnomes are pretty garbage. They're literally to dwarves as halflings are to humans.
Now that I think about it, halflings are fucking boring as well. I like the Svirfneblin, but that's about it. Fucking little people.
I like gnomes, they're basically dwarves, except the people playing them are usually not complete autists.
I especially liked 4E's Fey gnomes.

If you had to sum up your favorite unit/faction with a single song, what would it be?
Curious, but why does the Republic insist on having Liao as theirs when it's a world named after the Capellan ruling family?
Did they really think they were going to keep possession of that indefinitely?
>>46779157
It's within X number of light years of Terra, same as everything else they demanded.
Liao isn't even the most WTF-inducing gift from a successor house. The Dracs handed Deiron over.
"Why, yes, Devlin. Please, have this planet. It's only the majority of our surviving military manufacturing complex, the site of critical training facilities, a vital economic centre, and where we base at least a third of or military command structure. It's not like we need it or anything."
Polite Discussion Edition.
Do you use a map for your games?
How do you run them, if not?
So is there anywhere that covers what guns can and can't handle +P ammo? It just says super vaguely in High Tech that most TL 6 and some 7-8 guns can't.
>>46746001
roll20 maps are pretty easy to use. Beyond that, you can keep track of relative positions in combat in a narrative way.
Two sticks and a rock edition
>Halo.... tabletops?
Yeah, as in that Halo, with the cool guy that kills aliens and there is two of them, Halo: Fleet Battles which came out last year and Halo: Ground Command which is coming out this summer (pic related).
In Halo: Fleet Battles you control several classic ships like the Marathon and the Assault Carrier and pit it against the opposing fleet, the game has numerous ships including classics like the CPV-class destroyer and (old)new comers like the Epoch-class light carrier, with the likes of the Infinity and the spirit of fire coming in the near future.
Halo: Ground Command is a tabletop Wargame where you can reenact the great battles of the halo universe, the starter box is based on the Fall of Reach and is coming out this summer with a steady stream of releases planned to follow immediately, the starter pack comes with on3 Spartan-2, one officer, two Warthogs (with interchangeable weapons), and assorted soldiers, as well as an Elite Ultra, three Ghosts, and two hunters, and assorted grunts, preorders can be found at the spartan games website.
> So, what's the point of this thread?
Discussion of the rules and mechanics, predictions, general questions about the game, wish lists, pretty pictures, lore discussion is also welcomed, for all your Halo 5 bitching please go this way >>>/v/

Can you tell me about the game's mechanics, specifically Ground Command? How do they work on, say, a general attack roll?
Is it a game definitely in that "Spartan Games" kind of ruleset?
>>46741659
I'm glad you ask, somebody was explaining how the game played on the spartan games forum:
>1) Hijack! - yes, certain units can take over vehicles. Elites and Spartans mainly from what I remember. This is so cool I don't know where to begin. Oh - you are driving that Wraith right in to my force - I'll GTA that thanks!
>2) Weapons have specialist rules within them. So the Scorpion has Piercing weaponry which I believe reduces the DR rating of the type of unit listed. So I think the Scorpion was "Piercing 2, Armour" so against other tanks, it's a beast.
>3) There is 'Suppression' in the game also. Certain weapons have better suppression ratings: HMG etc. Suppression is you roll 2D6 and add how many casualties you've taken/suppression ratings and if it's over 10 you get a cooldown marker. Which I believe stops you from over watching etc.
>4) Certain weapons have cool down. So it's quite a tactical choice of when to use it. Fuel Rods, Snipers, etc have it.
>5) Spartans are insanely good but not OP. They did eat dust in a couple of games with sustained attacks and unlucky dice rolling. There is a reason they are 180 points! They can re-roll up to 7 misses in combat so DON'T LET THEM GET THERE! grin emoticon
>6) Air Drops are possibly my favourite aspect of the game and provide something VERY unique compared to ANY other table top game at this scale. You can reinforce depleted units with units from your dead pile, you can drop NEW weapons off and much much more. Example - Unit of Warthogs has taken 2 loses. You can call in a Pelican to drop 1 off next turn to reinforce it. This is awesome. It means the field is always changing and you have to react and think on your feet. Or is your Spartan up against an armoured column? Cool - call in air drop so he can change his weapon to a Spartan Laser! Good bye tank!
