I've actually yet to come across a game with what I would consider sub-par components, so I can't really say. Unless you mean like shiny FFG miniatures vs GMT counters, in which case the answer is no.

Lamentations.

Recap: You are ANON, the RED JOKER. In our last installment, the grueling battle against the SMILERS concluded.
All that remains is ALURA.
>>47537759
(Gentlemen, for those not up to speed: In our previous episodes, the Smilers succeeded in seizing control of the Diadem, and proceeded to bombard the city of Arcadia. Hundreds of people were incinerated in the barrage. Others were harvested by Players, or torn apart by the Cryptids unleashed from the Diadem.
You gathered a strike team of Armaros, the Thief, Daegal, Rook and Distortion Haze to infiltrate the Diadem via a teleportation portal, with the intent to sabotage it from within and stop the slaughter. Simultaneously, the survivors of the initial attack - Including a number of newly-awakened Players - staged a breakout attempt, to destroy the Shield Pylons preventing their escape from the area.
After battling your way through the Diadem, your team encountered Rust Kaiser, Calcite Arrow, Enfer, Alura Une, Bell Zephyr and Inox Fang. You defeated them, after a grueling battle - But not without cost, as Armaros was killed by Rust Kaiser and Bell Zephyr.
Alura is the last survivor of the battle. It appears that Pazuzu has stripped her of her powers and withdrawn all support, leaving her in her fragile Hyades form.
I highly advise that you read the - very brief - previous episode, as this is a direct continuation.)
> [X] "Is that all you have left, Alura?"
The smile slips off her face. Tear-streaked, her hair in disarray, she's still beautiful - objectively so. But the spite that makes her face curdle, twist upon itself - just a spasm, a moment then gone - makes her look mundane, only for an instant; like everyone else. It ruins the illusion.
"Oh, there's more. A lot more."
She turns to you, her face unhappy, but her posture provocative.
"-I can be anything you want. You know this. I can't fight you - *I* know this."
(Continued)
>>47537789
Dark almond eyes look at you, moist and miserable. Her slim fingers move to the clasps of her dress, the rounded tops of her breasts pressing up against the silken fabric.
"Come on - We both know where this is leading. I know you're going to."
"You're going to sculpt me into whatever sick punishment shape you want, and I'll crawl and debase myself, and we'll both know who has the power *then*-"
> "I'm not you."
The words hang in the air, for what seems like an eternity.
Alura's expression tightens. There is a flash of - something - in her eyes.
> "You wanted to be beautiful, didn't you Alura? Too bad that no mask can hide the ugliness behind it."
She flinches - Actually flinches. For a moment, she looks hurt, almost frightened-
And now you see what's in her eyes.
Hatred.
"Charming," she sneers - Her lip curling. "-Is that what you told Cybele, when she crawled into your bed?"
Her voice is soft, now. Softer.
"He'll kill you, *Joker*. Pazuzu is your death."
There is a hiss to her words, a bitter snap.
"But he's not the one you need to fear-"
Alura bites her lip, hard enough to draw blood. A bead of it traces the curve of her chin.
"-Because deep down, he's as pathetic and lonely as you. Chasing the same dead woman. Making excuses for her, again and again-"
She swallows, hard, before she chokes on her own hatred. Her bosom heaves, drawing deep breaths - Fingers curled into claws.
"-Do you even know what Naoya's doing to Mio, *right now*?"
Daegal, some distance away, stiffens - Frozen in the action of reaching for the Condemner.
There is a feverish light in Alura's eyes, almost spitting the words, flecking her full lips.
"She needed you - She *made* you her protector - and you couldn't even do that. How does it feel, Joker? How does it feel to be some miserable girl's *wet dream*-?"

Are your PCs even friends, or just fellow mercenaries that tolerate each other because their players don't want friction?

the later, but my runner's fondness for explosives means it's less then tolerate.
Fun fact: If a johnson pisses you off, a car full of ANFO does NOT get you future jobs.
>>47534637
Kind of in between, generally, only occasion I can think of where our characters became full-on friends was a 5e D&D game awhile back, my Shadowrun group seems to be working toward that, though.
>>47534637
Me and the barbarian and a increasingly-not-so-friendly rivalry going on, Me and the paladin disagree because I want to built a mind control device powered by fragments of pure evil to force everyone to be good, and me and the swashbuckler a good buddies who want to make the world a better place. We are bound together because we are the chosen ones, but it looks like the party may split in to two as we approach the climax of the story.

I prefer divine sense. The game was already going that way everytime they revised detect evil, and 5e's authors obviously wanted alignments to stop being a crutch for bad roleplayers.
The idea that they detected supernatural evil was already hinted at back in 2E even (where they flatly state it won't ping just because you've got a merchant with an E alignment, he's got to be actively going full Shylock about it)
I dunno if I've done well or fucked up horribly. I'm running HotDQ and my players came to really like an NPC slated to die and now they're ready to murder the whole caravan if it means getting revenge.
Welcome back, Kestrels, to the twenty-seventh installment of Mecha Space Pirate Quest! Now that the dust has settled, you are Admiral Roarke S. Starwind, leader of the Iron Kestrels space pirate fleet, master of the starship Rhinehawk, and pilot of the still-undefeated Knuckle Kaiser.

Last time, you scored a glorious victory and wiped the legendary pirate fleet of the Green Skulls from the stars with the assistance of the damaged UJCIDF Wels-class battleship Jaburo. Today is a day of celebration, but also a day of important decisions.
First and most important. The official story is that you are holding Corporal Samantha Blanchett and her mech, the S-Betta, hostage. You know this isn't true, but it's keeping her out of trouble.
Now, however, there are no more distractions and sham negotiations, you and the Colonel are both on Auditorium and you have to get this worked out. What do you want to do? She wants to stay, of course, but how do you frame that to the military?

Nigga wat are you talking about unbalanced?
We all know and hate edge, but I feel in our hate we have allowed something almost as heinous to go unpunished. The opposite of edge: smooth, pillowy feeling... ??
I don't know what to call it, but ITT we share stories of people going polar opposite of Edgemaster by being overly friendly, sympathetic, or heroic.
>Group is running away with a decent lead
>Hero decides to "buy time."
>Absolutely no need, but won't be talked out of it.
>>47516821
a martyr complex?
OP here
Christ, I remember a perfect example. I was playing in a game where the resident That Guy had made yet another character. This one was based off some goddess character in an anime, I don't know, but he said that she was built to be an assassin, and her profession was assassin. I thought this be his normal edge character, until his character and mine (an apathetic thief who was slowly being turned into rage incarnate by the shit dm's antics) ended up in the same grouping. Our first encounter he shut up and let me talk our way into a ruin that was being inhabited by some less than friendly warforged. The moment we go through the door it slams behind us, and suddenly we are surrounded by warforged. Adter some terse negotiations they make it clear they want us gone, but as we need something from in the ruins Im still discussing it. Despite several clear warnings to not move, dickhead decides to walk past tjem to look around the room. Combat ensues, and I end up behind a warforged, in prime position to shove my sword as far up his excuse for an ass as I can.
Dickhead, it should be noted, has not done anything remotely helpful in this fight he started (literally walked around ignoring the fight and being ignored in turn) but decides now is the time for action. As I call my attack he asks the gm if he can interrupt my attack by pushing me down. Several very strange rolls later the wardorged is minus half a head, dickhead is sprawled on me, and somehow there's a knife in my kidney.
>Why are you attacking them?!
"Why are we attacking the laser shooting robots that are shooting lasers at us? Because self-defense is a thing."
>They were just defending themselves!
"Uh, no, they attacked us after *you* ignored their warning to not move. Why do you care any way, I thoight you were an assassin?"
>Yeah, I am, but I only kill my targets. I hate violence. Violence is awful.
>>47516821
One of my PCs is exactly that. In a brutal Industrial Revolution setting where the continent is politically breaking down, he plays a selfless, virtuous, infinitely merciful and compassionate government leader. Very frustrating, as he's constantly taking the moral high ground against literally everyone.
I clearly remember this being a thing. I was invited to a game of it once but the group fell threw before the first game.
Do people still play it?
Was it any good?
And most of all, what happened to it? Why does it seem to have faded into obscurity?
>>47514691
I liked it. I was the only one with the book, so I was the one who ran it. The players seemed to like the two games I ran, so there's that.
>>47514691
>Do people still play it?
Someone somewhere maybe?
>Was it any good?
It had a lot of problems. Unbalanced basic classes. A wonky wealth system. A lot of problems held over from 3.5 also.
>And most of all, what happened to it? Why does it seem to have faded into obscurity?
It died with the rest of the WotC 3.5 stuff.

How do you handle sexual encounters?
Sometimes it's required for things like Nymph's and Succubi, so I'm wondering, how do you handle things along those lines?
>>47511244
Fade to black unless it's funny (and everyone or almost everyone at the table is on board with it).
Anything else goes into "that guy" magical realm territory.
>>47511244
I let the PC go to a private place and establish when the sexual acts/foreplay starts and ends.
I don't let them RP it because the rest of the party doesn't want to watch some cunt pop a chubby while he's essentially writing erotic fanfiction for his own character.
If they need to do something important during, like kill their lover or escape I'll allow that if they say so.
I'll let them have fun with it afterwards though. Like they can specify they leave the room with messy hair or something
>>47511244
For this one player who kept trying to get erotic shit into the game, I eventually let him go through with it, and went into deep, graphic detail during the RP session.
Everyone was laughing and he was being red-faced quiet as fuck. I had him roll a fortitude save and it ended.
A day later, I told him, "you feel an intense itching sensation on your groin."
Yea, he permanently never wanted to do sex stuff after that again.
I want to start up a space opera/horror game. Through ideas at me anon. I'm thinking starting them off with an Event Horizon like situation.
>>47509462
So you're aiming for quite visceral horror then? Confronting them with horrific imagery, blood and guts all over the shop?
I think space, with its immensity in time and scope, gets room for a lot of different types of horror. Isolation. The Great Filter is one of the scariest ideas out there, pondering why there's so little intelligent life out there that we can see. And that maybe something is stopping it from getting to the point where we can see it.
>>47509590
I want to try to cover as many types of horror and methods of scaring the shit out of my players as possible. Isolation will be a big one, mind fuckery, uncanny valley, ect. I'm going to usually have the players have new characters after each campaign ends with some recurring characters, make it feel like an anthology of weird happenings in the setting.
