/tg/, I need help fleshing out a setting. Now, don't get me wrong, the show provides a lot, but I'd like some help coming up with stuff that happens in this universe, as that isn't as touched upon in the series. Nothing too spectacular, but I'd like to get ideas about what stories we can tell (or that we want to tell) with what we're given so far.

I mean, there's Homeworld, this fast-paced, fast-expanding empire reaching out into the galaxy for reasons unknown and a few gems resist them because of Homeworld's invasions and annihilation of non-gem species. In a Steven Universe roleplaying game, do we want to talk about other rebels in different sectors of the universe? Or Homeworld gems doing high-exploration throughout the galaxy, meeting races much more terrible than they are?

If some gems can fuse with humans, what horrifying things do you want to fuse with gems.

What kind of stories would you like to tell with this setting?

I'm also thinking about rules and such, but that's for another time.

>>
Homeworld is too strict and too regimented, everyone has a specific place doing specific things within their specific castes and whatnot. I'm not saying that there's no stories to be told there but I would argue that the most interesting stories are those of people being broken out of that way of life. I would therefore argue that rogue gem factions make for much more stories.

As for gems fusing with humans, there's not actually anything to indicate that it's possible. Steven is the exception as he himself is half organic himself.

One significant area of exploration is dealing with non-human, non-Gem aliens. Homeworld must have some enemies out there to have so many soldier Gems and military weapons.

We manage without any external enemies.

For all the shitty bastards in A Song of Ice and Fire, those books have one of the best paladin characters I've ever seen. Ser Barristan Selmy is an old man but still a skilled warrior, who just wants to do his duty in protecting the king, but instead he is doomed to suffering and exile. Even there, he has yet to sacrifice honor or justice.

While it's not about them predominantly, the Traitor Son series features Paladins and magic Knights.
The main cast also gets more noble as the series goes on and the main character develops into a muscle wizard

I'd start with a tabletop wargame with only one model per player, then give each player 20 real-time seconds to complete their turn. If you can't finish in that time, you stop wherever you are and the timer goes to the next player.

Thread starter question: What do you think lies in Abyssal layer #666? Bear in mind that as per the Fiendish Codex I pp105-106, a layer's number is based wholly on when its discovery was noted by the Fraternity of Order; it has nothing to do with spatial position.

Discuss Planescape and the Great Wheel here, whether the original AD&D 2e version, the 3.X version, the 4e version (traces of the Great Wheel exist in 4e, down to the baernaloths, the yugoloths, the Heart of Darkness, Maeldur et Kavurik, Tenebrous, Pelion, and the Last Word all being canon as of Dragon #417), the 5e version, or your own original blend.

I am exceedingly well-lanned on planar canon under a holistic blend of 2e, 3.X, and sporadically even 4e lore. If you have any questions at all about the setting's lore, feel free to ask, and I will give you direct quotes and citations from as many primary sources as I can, unlike afroakuma. I will note when something is open to GM interpretation, and explicitly note whenever I give merely my own personal interpretation.
If you would like to ask anything under the context of a single edition and nothing more, please mention such.

Abyssal Layer 666 contains a bunch of edgy satanic symbology, and is entirely populated by half-fiendish/half-whatever special snowflake edgelords.

All of them are constantly searching the layer for some great figure of evil, but the torture of the plane is that they'll only ever find hints of something that doesn't actually exist.
>>
http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/183858/Nine-Hells-Adult-Coloring-Book

Is this coloring book what liveborn baatezu in Baator are given to hone their artistic skills? What would they use for crayons?

>>47435436

How do you think the half-fiends got there in the first place? Whom do you think sired them? The mother of the Abyss, Pale Night, perhaps?

The "great figure of evil" could be rumored to be the lingering fragments of the original Prince of Demons, Obox-ob. What they do not know is that as per page 21 of Dragon Magazine #357, the only surviving aspect of Obox-ob is his verminous aspect, which now lives in Abyssal layer #663 (Zionyn), thus making their search pointless.

However, it could be that their collective belief is so powerful that they really *do* manage to retcon into existence a lingering fragment of Obox-ob. This may have been Pale Night's intention all along.
>>
>>47437027
Oh, I was just using it to make a joke about how such a layer would end up filled with immature edgelords looking for satanic symbology in a multiverse that has none.

It'd be a largely unimportant Plane populated by a lot of katana-wielders who occasionally have to fight off incursions from monotheistic paladins.

Lets discuss settings that has modernized industrial nations with fantasy lands in the same world.
(insert Shadowrun and GATE jokes here)

>be me/us, leader(s) of elf or other fantasy lands
>we're getting invaded and pummeled by "evil" forces like those dark/drow elves, barbaric orcs, evil wizards, goblin hordes, and other evil shit
>suddenly these humans arrive, these humans are from the further Western Lands and they all look slightly different, they speak the same tongue as the humans of our continent but the most notable and different thing about them is their technology, especially their weapons
>their soldiers, warriors, knights and commanders wear uniforms that match the environment and they seem to wear little to no armor save for those helmets, "body armor vests" and masks of theirs, and they wield no sword nor shield but they wield these ranged projectile weapons of theirs called "guns" that are loud and do massive damage against metal aswell, though they're soldiers do wield knives and daggers
>and they ride mechanized carriages with no horses and have flying machines that reach speeds far than we can imagine, they also have these mechanized carriages that are fully dedicated for war they call "tanks" and shoot explosive projectiles even further
>the humans of from the Western Lands meet up with us and offer to help us and bring peace and form and alliance with us, as the forces of evil tried invading their lands as well but were able to repel the invaders
>we accept their help and alliance because we need that much help, and within a few weeks we gain ground and victories
>their flying war machines dealt a great blow against the enemies by "bombing" supply lines and important locations and the tanks of the humans of the west decimated the orcish siege machines
>after assessing the current situation, we may win in defending our lands thanks to these humans.
>I think we made a good choice in this one, any further wisdom?

Well I guess such a setting of modern humans doing military incursions in the fantasy lands should bring some scenes like this:

>modernistan and tacticool marines visit a fantasy tavern
>chatter from patron stops and music played by the bards stop until someone speaks up

"Well look at that! Its the Men of The Western Continent(s)! The people who helped us all fend off the forces of evil, HUZZAH!"

>the patrons cheer and the bards continue playing cheerful songs, then the start singing songs praising the Men of the West, specifically the marines
>the tavern owner calls to the marines

"Oi! We all 'eard one of ya recent missions, y'all stopped that Orc invasion on some farmlands with just two dozen men and those war machines of those?"
>one of the marines reply
"Yeah we did. Specifically there were about 24 of us marines back with artillery and armored support."
"Don't forget air support from an AH-6C. Miniguns and missile and rocket launcher tore through those savage green skinned fucks like toilet paper."

>That garnered a few laughs and cheers from some bar patrons who were knights and warriors themselves
>the bartender spoke again

"Ayy, since ya Western Men did so much for our lands. Drinks are on dah house for you foine gentlemen! Tell yer other boys they welcome to feast in 'ere! Ya earned it."

>one of the marines spoke to the other
"Damn man you hear that? On the house.'
"I know man. Real fucking food and not our crappy-ass MRE's. What you say sarge?"
"Sure lets eat, what ya having men? Hey where's Private Duncan?"

>one of the marines smirked and heartedly pointed at where the private was, being towed to a seat and being hit on by a tavern wench.

No feats means no retarded blocks on useful abilities just because someone wanted to make it harder for you.

Fighting Men / Fighters are basically Fighters/Rogue Gestalts when compared to the 3.5 fighters, they have the most skills and the most abilities in general as well as being masters of more forms of combat than other classes.

The Thief class instead gets a good amount of specific skills, but instead gets straight % that lets them overcome challenges that would otherwise require something specific or impossible - "Disabling" a pit trap so you can walk over it with no problems, or being able to stop a magical gem from shooting magical fireballs with nothing but two thumbs and a pair of tweezers.

Also, minute-long combat rounds means that you have much more freedom in what you do, and raising the casting time from 6 seconds to 60 really fucks casters over in ways that are hard to properly intuit, the 6-second combat round from 3.x was the start of so much of their bullshit.

D4 hit points for wizards, no max HD for first level, dual/multiclassing is totally different, kits rather than prestige classes, no CR for encounter design, don't need stupid feats to trip an enemy.

Mallet is extremely competent, I have trouble imagining a Mason's team without him.

Brick is cool too. Even when you're not putting influence on him, he's useful against many teams just to sit there and threaten a counter charge.

Marbles is mandatory (well, until Wrecker comes out) so you should definitely grab him. He's a pretty useful mascot anyways. Tooled Up is a great buff, Goad is situationally useufl, and "Loved Creature" makes the opponent pay for taking him out (unless they're clever and do it at the end of the turn).

Not sure about the Union Mercs. Been thinking of getting Decimate myself.

I get the feeling that they don't want me playing with them for whatever reason and I don't know why. They invite me to hang out and stuff, just not to play tabletops.

It's something I've wanted to do since forever but I had no friends through high school so I never got a chance.

It's not even like I'm just a totally autistic person or something. They even invite the group punching bag over but not me. It's not even that they don't like me as a person because I get invited to other stuff, just not tabletops.

I've hinted that I'm interested a couple of times but it usually gets blown off. I really don't know what I supposedly did wrong; it might just be that the one time I played I was kind of shit because I was unfamiliar with it? I really don't know.

Please help.

your deck is too slow to be aggro. also sideboards in casual are kinda worthless.
here's what i think you should do...
dont take offense, because by the build of the deck you seem kinda new. nobody starts out knowing how the fuck to build decks. hell, some seasoned players are awful at it. the best player (in terms of predicting plays and determining their next move) is probably the worst deck builder in our group.

-counters arent aggressive. take them out.

-your werewolf makes you take your time on your turns because you opponent wont want to slow down to give you a chance at getting your bombs up and allowing you to flip it. take it out.

-delirium is a waste of time and double red sucks for a 2/2 first striker. aggro wants to always be on curve. take those out too.

-the stratus dancer isnt aweful, but its not really that great either. its cut-able, but not a hindrance like the others.

- same with jori en, not awful. actually its probably better than the dancers because it provides you with gas so you can aggro harder.

here's how i'd fix the deck.

x4 delver of secrets
x4 stromchaser mage
x4 monastery swiftspear
x2 jori en

x4 lightning bolt
x4 gitaxian probe OR manamorphose
x4 ponder OR preordain
x4 slip through space
x4 titan's strength
x4 unsummon or echoing truth or vapor snag
x2 runechanter's pike

x4 shivan reefs OR sulfur falls
x8 island
x8 mountain

lightning bolt replaces lightning axe because it can hit players or creatures.

counters are replaced with unsummon and pals because it can be used to dodge opponent's removal and clear the field for attack.

expedite is obsolete due to the faster creatures. its replaced by probe to let you see what to save removal for/ plan or manamorphose if you wanna go off with prowess faster.

ponder/preordain for gas and prowess triggers.

delver because its too easy to flip

runechanter's pike because its hilarious. prepare your friend's anuses.

The stone is just a marble. The pocket knife has a 5% chance to instantly kill a target.

Law of Conservation of Detail, pham. The more detail you describe something in, the more your players will think it's something plot-relevant.

If there's nothing special about it, I'd at least drop the "perfectly" part from its description.

The stone is a behelit. Have fun watching all your friends be eaten

A question for the GMs whose the settings don't have humans as the master race:
Did you nerfed the humans or boosted the others?

How and why?

Nerfed the humans, in that it's high magic and humans aren't as good as elves. Granted, humans and elves are all that exist in large quantity (the other third race being innately supernatural and spiritual, and as such don't really have enough of a society to have much of a culture), so humans aren't terrible, but it doesn't come quite as naturally to them, so they don't have big magic cities like the elves do, and instead have a tribal, bronze-age culture.
