Players want gonzo fantasy set in feudal Japan. I'm trying hard to accommodate but I don't know where to start. Think some of the weirder ADnD modules but in glorious Nippon. If you have any ideas post em here.
Already started coming up with weird fantasy variations on classic Japanese myths and singling out things that would work on their own like a Gashadokuro.

I want to try out making all of the class features that classes get when they level up and turn them into feats. Then assign XP cost to all of them and enable players to buy them as they gain XP. Hit Dice and other stuff you gain leveling up would be locked to XP, still have to figure out how to manage the HD, thinking of making some kind of mathematical formula using Strength and Constitution. What d you think guys, can this be done?
Don't play D&D if you want this. Seriously.
Maybe it can be done, but why? What are you trying to achieve that D&D is so critical?
Just play something classless and convert the abilities if you really want to.

Say you wanted to completely fuck someone based on their class without killing them, how would you go about it? Cutting a wizard off from whatever the source of magic would be pretty obvious or stripping a barbarian of nearly every emotion.
I'm asking because I'm designing a couple of NPCs for an upcoming game, their story is that they were adventurers who decided to take on the Unseelie court a decade or two ago and lost, but instead of killing them the Unseelie stripped them of their means of resistance to watch the adventurers suffer before tossing them back into the world.
Mind rape is a pretty universal way to do it you're going a Fae route. Any kind of mental block that prevents them from using their abilities.

Do you want to make an encounter or just tell a story? If the latter, anything that could break a normal man works, really. It doesn't have to be specifically "HE WAS AN ARCHIVIST SO WE BURNED HIS LIBRARY DOWN" for everyone, you might not convey any message if you focus too much on classes instead of actual adventurers.

ITT: We groupthink a dungeon from start to finish as a group, similar to the setting threads we have regularly.
We are tabling the issue of system and mechanical statblock use with the dungeon for now.

SCP is dumb, and an RPG of it would be even dumber.
The concept wouldn't be based off of the actual video game slender clone. You'd actually be a team of higher rank within the organization as a Mobile Task Force. Your job, Secure Contain Protect with minimal witnesses and casualties. Using the entire SCP database as your Monster Manual. Visiting the entire world with various environments as well as anything within the Sci-fi genre. I know it doesn't appeal to everyone, but I also don't care.

There's your problem right there. Everything there is masturbatory fanfiction-tier writing, kills people instantly and arbitrarily, or just isn't suited to any kind of interesting encounter. It's not a universe made for playing around in.
