I turn to Lucy, her golden blonde hair blowing gently on the cold breeze blowing through the trees.
"Fine" I sigh shaking my head as I try to stick my hands into my pockets, only to realize I don't have any...need to fix that, I mean I didn't get the chance to bring a single coat into this world, and I..I don't like how cold it is "Lets get back before Sam throws a fit"

Powerful monster hunt and plague the humans.
Normal people are too weak to fight against them.
Some people get through a pact with strange beings the power to fight the monsters.
These people become mad with time and mutate themselves to monsters.
Would that be too dark for an RPG setting?
>>43857936
There's darker.
I mean it's dark as fuck, but it still works. Sometimes a good dark setting is what you want.
What kind of monsters are you thinking? Monster Hunter, Vamps&Weres, Monster Manual?
Sounds like Claymore to me. I'd play it

Judging by pic, I'm guessing this is intended to be Lovecraftian with powerful characters? Sounds cool. How would you implement this without players realizing the endgame too early?
Since the pc gnoll thread turned out good let's have one for tieflings.
How would you play a tiefling? What appearance, characteristics, personalities, and ambitions would you give your PC?
I have all tiefling players roll on a random mutation table for physical characteristics.
Okay just gonna post a TL;DR of my current tiefling character
My tiefling is extremely ambitious. His horns are quite small and his skin tone is human-like, so he was able to hide his tieflingness quite well when he was younger (Extreme racism against tieflings in specific areas of our country), but he wanted to become a great scientist, specializing in the area of otherworldly magic. After going to the best college in the known world, he easily graduated and started his studies, mainly studying old books in forgotten languages and ancient artifacts. Eventually he found a tablet made from pure amethyst, encrusted with odd letters made from marble. He started studying it, but when he finally started to get somewhere, it was discovered he was a tiefling, and he immediately got banned from the school and the libraries.
One of the librarians however, liked him a lot, and hid him in one of the many secret rooms in the school, Anne Frank style. Brought him food for several years and the likes. Now my character had finally found some sort of key to the inscriptions in the tablet, and started actually deciphering it. When reading the first sentence, he got into some kind of trance, entered the other world, somehow managed to unleash part of an eldritch abomination within his own body. After returning back, this part of the creature had somehow granted him powerful forms of magic. Other cults heard of this, so now he's traveling around to stop the cults from laying hands on the tablet.
Either play the classic "I know my people are known for being huge dicks and evil scumbags, but I'm different yada yada" or a tiefling whose primary obsession is rolling in dough. Preferably through dickish methods

Welcome to The Lost Island Quest. Last thread our hero, Alan Rodain, finally arrived in a strange new land. After experiencing the swell of power he felt from reaching the island, Alan met his superior, Blackburn, and asked some questions about the state of the settlement there. Afterwards he went to go drink at one of the local bars with his allies. The rest and relaxation Alan was enjoying was suddenly interrupted by Dolah, claiming that the city was under attack. Now, with the entire bar momentarily shocked into stillness, Alan realizes life in Seaside will be more action-packed...

The silence that permeates The Sword and Shield Tavern persists for another long moment, before it is shattered once more by a loud shout in the distance. That singular noise seems to launch the bar patrons into action.
“Shit.” Gabby mutters as she downs her drink and rushes out the doorway Dolah walked in from, Kyra behind her pulling out a small dagger and moving towards a back exit. Quissonce and Eve exchange a look before they get up from their back table, Quissonce wiping her wet hands with the bar rag and tossing it behind her as they rush out after Gabby. Rowe quickly looks around the bar for a weapon of some sort before hearing a sharp whistle from the bartender. He pulls a crossbow out from beneath the counter and tosses it to her.
“Thanks!” she shouts as she grabs it out of the air and moves towards the back exit. “I'll bring it back.”
You yourself seem to be in a bit of a bind. You aren't wearing your armor and your weapons were moved by sailors to whatever sleeping arrangements Blackburn prepared for you. There are a plethora of swords and shields attached to the walls of The Sword and Shield you could use, but you did recently pick up some martial arts moves from Gabby that you might be able to utilize. You also have picked up the ability to sneak well enough that you could try moving out with Kyra and Rowe to get the drop on whoever invaded the city. As you're pondering your options, Bartom comes up to you and puts about ten of those darts you were playing with in your hands. You give him a questioning look before he shrugs.
“You seemed to use them well enough. And they could put a person's eye out if you're lucky. Better than nothing.” He's right, you guess.

While we are learning a lot, we should probably get more practice with unarmed/ranged combat. In the meantime we can fallback on what we know from our soldiering days.

Has anyone played a game in this setting? How did it go?
(Bump)
Do any of you guys have a suggestion for a system for a low fantasy setting that isn't completely devoid of any and all supernatural elements.
I wanted to run a game about witch hunts where the players are all normal humans that hunt supernatural entities.
Pic sort of related because of the magic hunting.
bump for any advice.
A picture of Berserk would have gotten more attention and made more since as an example of what kind of setting I was looking for.
>>43857312
I think Beyond the Supernatural is like that assuming that you are willing to face Palladium's game system
Any other suggestions?
Are there any modern settings where I can be a wizard with guns that aren't WoD or Dresden Files?
Shadowrun
>>43857271
Shadowrun is cyberpunk future if anything. Not really "modern".

You leant back on your R-22 Spearhead, arms folded, scrutinizing the form of Misri as she held her E-11 and aimed at the targets down the cargo bay. Kuvasz stood behind her, as advisement and encouragement. “Alright. Take a shot at that can right there,” he commands. Misri nods, shakily holding the E-11 with both hands on the grip. Kuvasz quickly corrected that by placing her non-dominant hand below the barrel where it should be. “On your own time, fire.”
“Alright.”...

And you didn’t blame them. The Empire does do some monumentally stupid things after all. But this was different. These Rebels were growing bigger and bigger. For every one Rebel you killed or imprisoned, ten more would pop up in his place. Every planet that got the Base Delta Zero, another planet would spring up in unrest. You noticed it in your travels through the past several years. And it was one of the few things that frightened you. The anarchy of it, it was coming.
Still, it was a long...

“… a little bit, yes,” he mutters. “But, when I say feeling, I mean more reflex. Just try not to think about it too hard. You think too hard, your aim wavers. You have to let your arms naturally guide the blaster to its target, and you have to just let go. Is that good enough to understand?”
You raise your hand. “Are we going to be quizzed on this, Professor Skirata?” Sparks laughs, nudging his head towards you. You look towards, then sigh and walk over. You slap him on the head,...

Ugh, maybe you should just leave them on the ship. “Sir.” Lev calls you over the intercom. “We are approaching Kuat now. Lotte is requesting your presence over comms.” All of you walk out of the cargo bay, and step right into the cockpit.
“Whoa.” Misri pushes past all of you, and leans right over the dashboard. “What the hell is that!?” You squint, looking upon what she sees. Kuvasz and Vikker appear to be in awe as well, Vikker curiously...

Depends on what gets fucked up.

Yes.

Tables with games of all kind lined the building. Some were familiar, like Blackjack, Poker and Liar's Dice; all games of your people, or Ryashak a popular Qun'kai dice game. Others were less familiar, but knowing your luck it wouldn't be hard for you to win. Sitting at the bar you see a massive woman, where her right arm should have been instead a massive cybernetic exists with what appears to be a gatling gun resting where her hand would naturally be. On the opposite side you see a scrawny old man who holds himself like a veteran smokes from a pipe at the spice bar. Lastly there are the tables themselves where there is fortune to be won.
