This thread is an official /tv/ and /tg/ crossover regarding the the third DnD movie, the Book of Vile Darkness. Oh, and the first two, I guess, but those are really old.
I actually really enjoyed BoVD, although I should make it clear that I'm the sort of person who enjoys terrible movies in general. Bad action, fantasy and sci-fi schlock is something I indulge in, like media junkfood.
Having said that? I actually found myself more entertained by BoVD than any of the other D&D movies. It felt more like an actual adventure, with straight up PC dickery, dumbass actions and alignment issues. The Paladin's moral story was actually interesting to me, arch and cliche as it was, and the bad effects came across as charming.
Still not a good film by any means, but a fun one.
Just look at this derpy extra in the background. What is he thinking about, /tg/?
Bad but not painfully bad and actually pretty fun, which is the best you can really hope for in a direct to TV movie.
Mini Six and D6 System general discussion thread.
Anyone play this? Any houserules or settings to share? Thoughts on the possibility of a new version of Mini Six?
>>47987828
Haven't played, but like what I see. Going to use it for an SMT game.
>>47988057
Sweet. I always thought Fate or OVA would be a better choice for SMT/Persona (although probably more the latter), but who knows, this might actually work better.
>new version of Mini Six
Fuck yeah, please. Mini Six is the best version of d6 I've seen, frankly it needs an update. The original seemed a little bare.
One day I'll run a Heavy Gear game with it, but sadly not for a while. Got too many other campaigns on the backburner.
>>47987828
>Anyone play this?
I do!
>Any houserules or settings to share?
I converted Jovian Chronicles to D6, based on the HGd6 setting.

The biggest things I struggled with were movement and ranges. Mini Six and HGd6 both use Speed Codes for movement and ranges are just fudged into short, medium, long, ect, like SW1e, but they're a bit difficult to wrap one's head around and actually use, and SW2e's actual measured movement and ranges feel like they require a grid, and I feel D6 works a lot better with theater of the mind. I'm still struggling to find an easy way to handle abstract movement and distance.
Another issue I had were small differences in dice codes meant big differences in results. A weapon that does 3D damage is going to have a surprisingly hard time doing any significant damage against something with an armor of 4D, and that's not even getting in to the Blaster-Proof Wookie issues of WEG's past. Using the Body Points variant rule for damage does alleviate this somewhat, but body points are just HP, and this is an extremely boring fix that completely removes one of the D6 system's more distinguishing features.
Honestly I think the whole system could be improved by scrapping the "add total of all dice" thing entirely, and instead make it a successes-based system like Shadowrun, which is a thing a number of homebrews have done.
>Thoughts on the possibility of a new version of Mini Six?
Wait, is that a thing that's happening?
What happened?
>>47987589
who?
>>47987589
I've cracked the case.
>>47987589
>It's real
HOLY SHIT
>geeky friends be playing D&D 5e
>one dude invites me to observe a session
>actually pretty fun
>decides to research mechanics before joining
>holy fuck it's beautiful
So now I'm going to make a pyromaniac ranger. Any idea how that could work?
>>47987119
Really badly.
>>47987119
>i'm going to play a pyromaniac ranger
>i'm going to play an atheist paladin
>i'm going to play an amputee fighter
>i'm going to play a mute bard with no fingers
>i'm going to play a brain-dead psion
>i'm going to play a wizard with retrograde amnesia
>i'm going to play a pacifist gunslinger
>i'm going to play a quadrapalegic monk
What i'm saying is your character is stupid.

White can also try to block the check with either of his bishops, but the end result is still a mate with Qh2
Every planet in Mass Effect's setting, if they have enough life on them, are now given a Shadowrun manasphere. This means that people on mana planets start to give birth to Elves and Dorfs. Mages, spirits, and dragons start popping up all over the galaxy, ect ect. What happens?
>>47986899
Everything is reduced to five choices maximum, with one of the choice
colored red and another choice colored blue.
In the end, there will be only three choices that actually matter and you will be forced at all times to pick just one or to quit playing entirely.
>>47986899
Just the humans? Or are there now Asari Double-Elves and Krogan Double-Trolls?
>>47987075
If it is alive then chances are it will have SURGE and awakened shit going on. So yes, Krogan double trolls.
whats a good beginner-friendly super hero system that has an amount of rules around 5e d&d?
>>47985893
Mutants and Masterminds is generally acknowledged as one of the better superhero systems. I've heard it needs the GM and players to communicate pretty well though.
>>47985918
It does because unless if the GM says no, you can do pretty much anything with it.
>>47985922
Yeah. You should at least run ideas by your GM. It's simple as "Hey, you don't plan on time travel being a thing here, do you?"
"Nah, Craig."
"Alright, I guess I'll go with my other idea, how about a villain who can mind control anyone wearing a fursuit or-"
"No."
Got ideas for an interesting weapon or suit of armor in 40k? Got ideas for its history? Got ideas for its stats?
If you don't have a good idea for one, flesh out one of the ideas below!
>Godwyn Pattern Combi-Lasgun
>Fleshripper Daemon weapon of Khorne with surprisingly incompetent Daemon
>Ripper Gun with power field generator in stock
>Jokaero carpal (wrist-mounted) weapon
>Mk II power armor; it is unpainted and legion is unknown.
>A suit of humble flak armor deemed "Ol' Reliable" by its fortunate only wearer.
>A battered and dented Sororitas power armor helmet.
>Scout Armor that, when in hiding, slowly changes to match the color of the environment.
>>47985594
heavy mining armor, for the IG
replaces heavy weapons teams for a cost, gets the profile of more or less a marine, gains relentless with the heavy weapon
>>47985594
Are they ever going to make mk I armor?
>>47985594
>combi lasgun
Maybe lascannon
Unless you mean a lasgun with a single shot combi bolter underslung?
Awesome.
Ideas
>power bayonet/knife
>autogun or stubber that shoots rounds that do little initial damage, but contain a highly acidic substance that can weaken ceramite, given time and effort.
>rebreathers connected to canisters of laughing gas or helium for cultists
>"holy hand grenade" that actually opens a hole to the warp when discharged, either consuming the demon or reinforcing him
>set of replica samurai armor with katana owned by a weeby Planetary Governer
>some vehicle(anything from car to starship) that has a machine spirit dangerously close to being a true AI with a sassy attitude to boot. Bonus points if you can fool the inquisitor into believing it's the Captain of the ship.
I'm burned out of shitty ideas
>Lovecraftian horror style enemy that absorbs people.
>If you get absorbed, you will be trapped inside of its mind while being trapped inside your own, kinda like inception.
How can you make this a horrifying bbeg from this concept?
>>47985034
By awkwardly trying to reinvent The Thing with a slightly different headcanon?
>>47985034
Rip off the freddy krueger movies but play them straight.
>>47985034
Make the lovecraftian horror have a very human shape, behavior and personality, and we're right on the horror side.
Even better: it can change shape to the absorbed person's shape, essentially turning into its victims complete with personality and behavior and maybe partial memories. And the mind-prisoners are forced to watch as the changeling warden ruins their lives.
That Guy Story Thread
I'll start with A "That Group" story.
>Begin to get into TTRPG, even going to great lengths to get two randoms to play a shoddy GURPS campaign on roll20 that dies out in two sessions.
>However, feel confident and believe in person would be easier
>Overhear group of friends/acquaintances after school talking about their D&D adventures
>Tell them I have some stuff ready from that roll20 session
>They are all impressed by my bare minimum preparations.
>There's 6 people, but my logic was since it was in person it would be easier
>I was itching to play so bad
>Decide on GURPS because that's literally all I know
>Tell them at lunch to find GURPS Lite, skim through it, think of a character, and prepare a list of normal items to bring on the adventure. Also told them it's low fantasy so no wizards or elves (but magic was going to make a return when they accidentally help the antagonist)
>Basic shit for people who I thought were experienced in D&D.
>Wrong
>None of them do shit
>One of them insists he should be a whore for no fucking reason
>Another keeps asking to be magic related shit
>The others didn't tell me a thing, but probably wanted to be murderhobos like they were used to
>But the hype of a cool place to play and great food at the first session kept me going
>Even make shallow characters that can be added to on session 1
>Surprise: Majority of the party has work so scheduling is fucking impossible.
>Eventually the group and I lose interest
>All
>6
>Were
>That Guys
So I got about four of my closer friends to hop on roll20. Only two made characters and showed genuine interest, while the other two were lazy half-That Guys. That's another, less terrible story.
k
>>47984675
>Someone has taste that differ from mine
>They are all that guy
It doesn't work like that. You can't just pick up 6 guys off the street and expect them to mesh perfectly with you.
>>47984755
>reading comp of 0
They weren't off the fucking street. They were friends from school.
The problem wasn't taste either. The problem is that they had a total disinterest in participating. They were all fucking lazy and didn't put a single grain of effort in preparing anything for session 1.
Hello, I'm Tiberius Stormwind from Draconia!
That's great sir but you need to wait in line just like the others.
You sound chipper considering your country has been destroyed.
>>47984362
Jesus, this!
What the fuck is people's problem that they think they can just cut in line?
Is it a dragonborn thing? Because if it is, it's seriously rude.
I need titles /tg/! Original ones, for the key players in the court of the royal city. I already have the quite unoriginal Emperor chosen, but what of his advisors?
>His right hand and chief confidante?
>The master of the Magos Council?
>The head priest, voice of a hundred religions?
>The commander of the royal armies?
>The silent psion scion of the sneaks?
While we're at it, give me examples of your own made-up or original titles. I'd love to hear 'em.
How about "Sir Spam-a-lot, Queerlord of the Mediocre-at-best Comic"?
>>47984311
The mediocrity of the comic can be discussed on /co/. The image was only meant to play off the subject, nothing more. Diggin' that title though, but there's no knights on the council currently, so I'll save "Sir Spam-a-lot" for another time.
>>47984365
Alright then. In that case, you'd probably find this page interesting.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_titles
It's quite an impressive list, and includes neat titles like Tagmatarchis and Recipient of Edicts.
Why the fuck do they have the beaked helmets? I love them and I'm aware not all of them use them, but it looks so stupid
>>47984262
Should clarify I love the chapter itself, not the helmets
It's an older type of armor, the generation before the type most commonly seen on Space Marines. According to the Deathwatch RPG, this version of the armor has plates that fit together very well, allowing for better range of movement and quieter operation. To most Astartes, that's not a big deal, as they want to have a big clompy intimidating approach. Raven Guard like to use ambushes and sneak attacks; the quieter armor suits their style of warfare quite well, and they have more of the older suits than most chapters.
I dunno why they have the beekee helmet on that particular mark of armor; it's how Space Marines were drawn all the way back in 1st Edition.
>>47984262
>why do the ravens have beaks
What is the best army and why is it tau
>>47983984
The Tau can't be sought out by Chaos or Nids yet, so all they have to do to inherit the galaxy is wait.
>>47983984
The one you have fun with.
