Not necessary at all unless you want to visually connect the models and units together. You need a ton of magnets and it forces you to always pair drop ships with certain models.
It is better to paint markers on squads and their parent ships to ID them. Also that is much easier.

OK, so I'll try to give a simple version.
You wake up, and flip on your commlink to AR, which you would typically keep on by default. Lots of little windows pop up in your vision, giving you basically real life HUD. News and twitter/facebook on the left, AROs pointing out sales down the street, incoming text messages, youtube videos, music based on your mood at read by a biomonitor and run through Shiawase's algorithms. Anything you can do on your laptop, you can do in AR. Can other people see what you're doing? Nothing in the books about it, I just assume you can turn that feature off and on. GM's call.

Now you drop into VR, cold sim. Your body goes limp, and you see a couple portals in front of you. You have a medium lifestyle, so you have access to the public grid, which looks like a floating flag of whatever nation you're in. To the left of that, you see the Emerald City grid icon, which looks like, well, a floating green city. You choose whichever one you want to join. This is important, not just because of cross grid problems with hacking (you take penalties), but net neutrality is not a thing, which means certain hosts (the VR equivalent to websites) aren't available on others, because the host has to pay the grid to be up.

I assumed that you could share AROs with people; for example, you can both look at the same video at the same time. They mention that a few times in the fiction, people passing maps to each other etc. I count it as a mark that a device has on another if you get permission to share AROs with their glasses/commlink.

I'm trying to build up a way to sandbox in the wilderness, and since it necessarily involves mapping, i was wondering which way is better for long-range (ie: not combat) distance: hex or squares?
TL;DR: better hexes or squares for exploration purposes?

For my next atlas map, I'm inclined to do it with no grid at all, to a scale (like a real map), and then lay grid over it.
I think hexes are easuer to count distance than squares, corrdinates are easier to specify locations. A ruler/string is the only accurate method.

Hexes are always better, since you can move more freely. Especially if armies are involved, the diagonal square movement is a bit icky. I don't know any advantages of squares over hexes.

Imagine if, 20 years from now, you could play a game alone, or with friends, with an AI for the GM. The AI makes the adventures, either downloaded or generated, and reacts to whatever you do with actual understanding. You could play Shadowrun like you would a videogame, alone and whenever you felt like it, or have a party of friends without a forever-GM.

Hey /tg/ long story but I've got a character whose going to be empowered by various figures from Christian Myth or catholic saints. I need a list of badass Christian figures or saints. No Angels (long story) and saint George is already taken. I'm talking like, Saint Moses the Black badass, but someone with miraculous powers is preferable. One figure I already have is Vladimir Tepes as defender of the faith, so feel free to go edgy. I just need ideas.

If you need saint in their name, generally catholic tradition is looking at new testament(the last 27) books of the bible, (focus on the book of acts for miracles forom people besides Jesus). Or catholic tradition is looking at after the New testament writing. Look into how saint hood is achieved. I believe the standard is 3 miracles. I bet there is a source listing the various miracles. This would make choosing easy.

Seriously though, does anybody do this? Same for DM cloaks. It sounds like it would be a lot of fun but I've never met anybody IRL who does it. Is it just a myth?
People will think you're a weirdo and even if you manage to play it off and explain things perfectly the joke will still fall flat in short order and you'll spend two hours awkwardly sitting there wishing you'd just worn jeans.
If you know the group beforehand and convince them all to wear costumes to the session it's a different matter.

I had a girlfriend who played dnd and wore a cloak instead of a coat. It wasn't even a dnd or larp thing, that's just what she did. She was known around campus as "cloak girl".
