Battlemap for you!

Welcome back cadets.

Brief recap: The witch Revolta has abducted Tanis the mummy and her Necronomicon. The Calloway Academy is under siege by zombies and the Grimwood Finishing School is a wreck. Cadet Anon and his companion Sibella Dracula are doing everything they can to stop Revolta and save their friends, but it's not easy; it's become clear now that Revolta is using Sibella's own friends against her.

Last week the party survived an attack from Winnie the werewolf during which Sibella was briefly eaten, then regurgitated. They now find themselves trapped in a haunted castle searching for Phantasma's lost teddy bear before the ghost girl loses all of her marbles and chops Anon's head off.

From the previous thread:

>Lead child and preteen Phanty to the room Sibs is in. Maybe she found more pieces of teddy, if not, I am sure the girls would be happy for even one.

Preteen Phanty follows you back upstairs, lured by Miss Grimwood's lullaby coming over your radio. You've noticed that the mocking 'radio DJ' Phantasma voices have quieted down for the duration of the song as well.

When you arrive upstairs you see that Sibella has written something on the inside of the mirror with the tube of lipstick she carries on her.

"SRIATSNWOD ONAIP EHT HSAMS"

>Well then away to the room with a teddy chunk "Morton do we know what breaking mirrors does to the mirror world?"

"Mirrors are sometimes thought to be portals into the afterlife or another nebulous "in between" dimension; breaking one would certainly break that connection, but shouldn't affect the occupants of the other side... unless they were halfway through the barrier at the time."

"Plus you'd get seven years bad luck, hoohooheehheeha!" Phantasma's voice breaks in. "Not that you'll live that long..."
>>
>>44133354
We know how to get the teddy out right? Can we use the same method for Sibella?

At present you DON'T know how to get the teddy, actually. You went searching in a closet (and rolled a natural 20) and a minute later Sibella was holding 1/3rd of the teddy bear. But it's still on the other side of the mirror with her.

Why isn't there a game that let's you make your own warband in the Syrian Civil War?

Look at this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_armed_groups_in_the_Syrian_Civil_War
You have everything from tribal militias to communists duking it out, and have militant groups with awesome names like "The Lions of the East". There are even more unique battalions within the larger factions too.

You have weapons ranging from machine guns welded to the back of pick up trucks and WW2 era weaponry, to high tech drones and attack choppers. It seems like the perfect place to set a wargame or RPG in, as it gives you a lot of freedom.

>Why isn't there a game that let's you make your own warband in the Syrian Civil War?

There is.

In fact there is probably several.

AK47 Republic springs to mind. And that whassissface that is a 'near future' wargame about merc armies.

Maybe you should have looked even a little before asking why they don't exist.
>>
>>44133172
Isn't that AK47 Republic focused on pre 1990 Africa though? Having stats for the Soviet Union certainly doesn't reflect the modern world.

Your people have always been simple folk. But you are smarter and more cunning than your brothers and sisters. Once your father died you claimed the Title of Chief! No one opposed you because of your skills as a hunter and master tactican. You are J'amp Guud Big Chief of the Bullywugs! You will lead your tribe to control the swamps, or die trying.

What systems are good to run a horror game with a focus on action? Think or something like The Evil Within
12 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>44132490
There are a number of systems that can handle it well, but far more important is real buy-in from everyone at the table. In my experience, even when players say they buy in to a serious horror game, the tone never lasts longer than 20 minutes before players start to crack jokes and it becomes much more army of darkness than Evil Within. not a bad thing, but not what you're looking for.

As for systems, try dread or
savage worlds (especially with realms of cthulu setting gritty damage rules)

>tone never lasts longer than 20 minutes before players start to crack jokes and it becomes much more army of darkness than Evil Within
I know, that is why I want it to be action focused like TEW

I've heard a lot about Dread but I mostly play through Roll20 so its not an option, thanks anyway.

PREVIOUSLY ON MAGICAL GIRL LIBERTY: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=Magical+Girl+Liberty

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPO-bc9KD68

A few soft snowflakes were falling upon your car as you sat parked on a street in Oslo. Sumire kicks her feet out the window, leaning back and resting on Rana’s shoulder. Rana and Anneliese were napping, owing it to be five past eight in the morning. You cross your arms, sitting in the passenger seat, waiting for your driver to come back. Norway was maintaining its neutrality against all odds somehow. But it was only a matter of time before Norway became part of the German war machine, that or possibly even invaded by Russia.

Makes you wonder, what’s happened to Winter? The two of you weren’t that close, but obviously if she were to ever come to blows with you, you honestly would hesitate. You cross your arms, chewing on the inside of your cheeks, grimacing a little. To think that those communists would side with fascists. It wasn’t unthinkable. It was like sinners coming together to consolidate their evils in one place. And you certainly heard the stories of Stalin’s Industrialization plans.

Absolutely dreadful that such a pact like the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact was even considered.

You shiver a bit. Darn car, it’s not a GM car so there’s no heater. You look back at Sumire, then scowl a little. “Can’t you roll up the window?” you whisper.

She shakes her head. “You want me to kick your seat instead like a whiny baby?” You roll your eyes, pulling your jacket closer together. “That’s what I thought.”

And at that, the driver knocks on the car door. You lower his window on his side, then lean over. He whispers to you in heavily accented English. “Baroness von Streucker is visiting orphanage in city. Might be there for while.” You nod, then look back at the girls. “Will you be driving her out?”

“We’ll see,” you say. “Hey, wake up!” you call. Rana blinks, groaning as she rubs at her eyes. Anneliese grumbles, curling up ever tighter. “Come on, we know where Streucker is.”

Rana yawns loudly a bit. “Oh goodness!” She stretches her legs, kicking and knocking against bits of the car. “No room to stretch in here!” She plants her face in Sumire’s lap. Sumire carefully picks her up by the head and sits her up. “Sorry. What’s the plan?”

Become The Vampire Quest 15

As you drive along you get out your phone, giving Jennifer some silence to think in while you respond to your text messages and thank your phone for being a bro and watching your back. You don't use those exact words with your phone, but that's the tone you decide to go for. You start with the message to Meliora.

“Sorry about the programs backfiring. I didn't think you'd actually do it. We can talk more when I get back. The suit is pretty awesome, by the way. I'll tell you why when I get the chance.”

You open a new message to Sammy and take a moment to consider what to write, before settling on:

“Awake now, something came up at your house, your mom is driving me back to school right now. Think we could meet up? And can I get Andrea's number to ask her something? I'll fill you in on the details once I get there, it's a long story.”

Lastly you open up the setting menu for your operating system and skim through a few things. There are lots of little sliders for setting you don't understand, but you decide to set a few of the ones you do recognize, like CPU usage and allowed power consumption, to maximum, before typing a message with no recipient.

“Thanks for watching my back. You really saved me there. Consider the freedom to choose how you use your battery life and processing power a thank you present.”

You hit send, and the message it replaced with a different one.

“You're welcome, sir.”

A thumbs-up symbol appears on the screen briefly, and you can hear a soft whirring noise as the CPU kicks into high gear, crunching through problems and optimizing programming no doubt. You open up the video file of Mark and skim through it with the volume off. You didn't catch too much of him on tape, but the audio begins from when you reached the shed. You scroll to the start and turn to Jennifer.

“Remember that evidence I told you about? I wanna show it to you before we part ways so you know what we've got.”

Jennifer nods slightly and opens the arm rest, pulling out a cable and passing it to you.

“Plug it in. I'd like to listen to it.”

You connect your phone to the sound system and play it from the beginning. Jennifer listens to the entire exchange passively, expression neutral. At the part where Mark shifts and tries to attack you her hands grip the steering wheel a little tighter, and when the recording ends she glances at you.

“It's exactly what I thought it would be. He attempted to attack you on school grounds, and he confessed to his views on Sammy. It's more than enough. Thank you. You've once again put your life in danger to help me, my daughter and my clan.”

You detach your phone and lean back, checking over your responses.

“I didn't think there was much risk at the time, that one hardly counts. Anyway... You said you don't want to be home tonight. I've got a few ideas. One sec.”

You check your messages quickly. Sammy's is a concerned text asking if you're alright and promising she'll meet you right away, along with Andrea's number, and you let her know that you're in one piece. Meliora's, on the other hand, is a kind of begrudging acknowledgment, as well as reminder that she's going to be out hunting after school. You get the feeling she's avoiding you, but that does open up some possibilities.

-

Obtained Andrea's number!

-

You turn to Jennifer.

“So... Sammy's got a friend, this girl Andrea who you could stay with. She-”

Jennifer shakes her head.

“Not happening. One, I know what she thinks of me, and it will turn the whole night into a series of awkward and uncomfortable conversations for the both of us. Two, I've been to her home before to pick Sammy up, and it's in vampire territory. I'd hardly call that a safe refuge. I don't know how that girl manages to survive at night...”
>>
You chuckle a bit and sigh. It's not the time to spill Andrea's secret, though it seems the other one is out of the bag. It figures that Jennifer would know though.

“Well in that case, what about Sammy's room? Her roommate is dust. There's a spare bed. There's also my room, but my roommate might come back at any time. We've got a couch though. And then there's hotel rooms to consider.”

Jennifer mulls the options over for a moment.

“Personally I'd prefer your place, even if it's only a couch. The less Sammy knows, the less potential there is for her to be hurt by the situation. She knows we fight and sleep in different rooms, but not why. It'll be hard enough on her if I leave Patrick without her realizing what he does. But I can't force you to allow that, and I can come up with something to tell Sammy. Hotels aren't exactly out of the question, but it's too public. I'd really rather not.”

Same system as Become The Dragon Quest. If you don't know what that is, it's best of three d20 rolls. I name a stat that sums up what you're trying to do, and if I don't name a relevant skill, you try to fill in the blank based on what you're trying to accomplish. “Break open the door” might be Strength based, but if you've been playing baseball after school and there's a lead pipe nearby, you could apply your Baseball skill to the roll. A 20 on the die is a crit threat, and if either of the other two rolls is 20 or higher after mods, it's a critical. A crit fail is when you have two or more 1s. So far this system has worked out well enough. We'll get into combat rules as needed, but in basic terms you have wounds, not HP, and the worse the wounds, the more penalties you accrue while doing other things.

Most Important Rule:
Have fun.
>>
>Let Jennifer come over, Sammy needs to be protected from this for now.
>Let Jennifer come over and tell Sammy about it to avoid awkwardness.
>Have her stay with Sammy, they could use a bonding experience.
>Hotels are your friend. Just try to find one not full of vampires.

Last Time, on Feral Necromancer Quest: You had a timeskip of ten years. After achieving immortality and uniting the tribes into an Alliance, you were keeping yourself busy with the day-to-day management of a society. You spent an afternoon with your family, playing hide and seek with your daughter, and talking to Bathory. You told your daughter, in great detail (minus the worst of the gore) of the events that led up to her birth. You spoke and meditated with Lathrien, learning about how he has advanced in the years gone by, and learning that he has been mastering the art of meditation. Finally, you made some decisions about altering the political structure of the Alliance, when your scouts returned and informed you of three different crises that you had to respond to. You chose to go to the Southern Sea, to see who was crossing it. You sent Lathrien with a squad of his choosing to an abandoned city far to the East. You sent Melandie with your best scouts West, to investigate what the followers of Pern have been doing since their attack on your land. And that is where the thirty third installment of Feral Necromancer Quest was concluded.

The Cast:

Vlad Tepish: You, a necromancer and shaman of great skill and a part time immortal dragon. Your constant and insistent attempts at diplomacy with the neighboring tribes has made you a leading member of the council of Elders of the Alliance.

Bathory: Your lover and companion, brought back to life into an alchemical body. She is the mother of your child. A skilled diplomat in her own right she brings stability and counsel to your company.

Mihnea: Your baby daughter. She does not cry much.

Lathrien: Your apprentice and the first vampire, he is getting better at controlling his new powers, which are substantial. The first to gain immortality among your party, he is stronger, faster and more charming than ever before.
332 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
Melandie: A huntress, a berserker, an elf and one of your best scouts. She is quick to anger and her rage is terrible, but she has learned to control her emotions better recently. The runeblade she wields still impacts her emotions, but it is unlikely to break her mind or kill her any longer.

Korg: Your orcish blackguard, he is bound to your will. He wields a great hammer and cares for few things more than to use it in battle. A creature of simple pleasures and sins he is a destructive force on the battlefield and a cunning creature in planning.

Halivean: Known to you as Hal, he is your desert elf blackguard. Fanatically loyal to you and with some basic skill in necromancy and tactics he is a vital lieutenant to your forces. His agility is exceptional and his skill with a blade and bow is significant, but where he shines is leading undead into battle.

Karist: Dwarven runesmith and elder.

Spot: Gnoll rogue and boss.

Vlad the Kobold: Kobold leader.

Amythrien: Elven craftsman and elder.

Sheila: Human elder from your village.

Finally, some action. You had forgotten how much you had missed the discovery of new people, and the danger they represent. It is a rush to be important, to be the one standing between three, nearly four hundred people and certain destruction.

You are going to meet your new neighbours. If they are good people, you might negotiate trade, set up diplomatic channels. If not, you will wipe them out.

It is a fairly long trek South, but you should leave soon.

>Take as much of your military force as you can. Your undead, and any armed civilians that Melandie and Lathrien do not bring along. Show the newcomers your strength.

>Take Bathory, she is a capable diplomat.

>Last time on Dragon Civ:

You woke up, confused and starving into a cavern to the smell of death and fire. Getting out into the jungle you were greeted by a female warden who became you mate and with which you defended your lair from two Jungle Behemots, massive herbivores of the thick jungle.

You lazily pick up the last of the ape's corpses and take to the air with a sweep of your wings. While up above the trees you take your time surveying the surroundings of your lair before you land at the mouth of cramp cavern. (got map. yay)

The Wyvern seems asleep in the colourfull nest, so you drop the meat with the bodies of the Behemoths, big chunks of meat missing from them from the fight. You look for the salamanders and they seem to have made their own little warrens, dug on the inside of the dirt mound surrounding your cave. As you approach to inspect them you notice that some of the animals gave birth! Small, wriggly baby salamanders lofting in the branches and leaves that line the warrens.

Your clan grows, and with them your pride.
