There is no 'what's up'. There is a thousand smoldering fires that might flare up at any moment, and you just hope to get there in time and find a way to stop it.
Just because someone is an unwitting pawn does not mean they are harmless. Most people are unwitting pawns. We are a society structured by a concealed power hierarchy where everyone lies to himself just enough to make it work another day.
No cultist ever has a handler's perspective on the Mythos. And neither should the players. Characters act out of personal motivation and self preservation. They might have caught a glimpse of something powerful. It may have broken them, haunted them, or even given them power. But it will not explain itself, or even consciously communicate.
The Mythos consists of countless concepts which each in itself is inexplicable and vastly powerful. DG structures a few of those into a canon, gives them its own spin, but doesn't exclude any others or claim its interpretation to be correct in any way. The unreliable narrator is a central trope. So the story usually lies in the explanation humans assume when they encounter Old stuff. It could turn them into a cannibal, a ritualistic murderer, or a power magnate. It could make them start a secret cult, or make a dark prophecy. But it will not be the thing they found making them do it. It will be their own mad concept of reality.

I've recently been thinking about making games/variations of games. One game I've always wanted is a version of Clue where the murder knows they are the murderer and is desperately trying to not be found out. As far as I know, no game does this and I was thinking about making my own.

Bit of a meta question for you guys. Do you allow other players in competitive games to adjust their turn after it has ended? Specifically if they've forgotten to roll a die that could have affected the entire game?

You have classes like: farmer, bard, merchant, artisan, etc. And then you have three archetypes: fighter, mage and technic. And combine the skills of the class and archetype.

I'm planning on doing a campaign with my friends set in post-WWI England; it has characters and plot elements from pretty much any good anime/manga set around that time, like Phantom Blood or Black Butler.

I am currently working on a Scifi game that works like D&D 2nd ED. (I am too causal to learn and DM traveler forgive me)
And I finished my list of alien races.
How it works is the player rolls a D10 to choose the category (# in the corner), then a D20 for the specific race (# over the head of the alien).
This is as far as I have gotten, but I plan to make perks and negatives for each alien.

Sorry about the delay.
The halls of the dungeon are winding and confusing, but Sir Oliver seems to navigate them easily, marching down the hall with strange, youthful energy. He hums a little marching tune while he walks, one that fills you with a strange longing for a time you've never been in, of comradery and blood. The trip is otherwise silent, the hollow footsteps of the marching armor filling the gaps, until you both reach another set of wooden doors, scratched in stained in several places. Oliver gives a little nod and pushes inside, pulling you along with him.
The mess hall is filled with monsters of all different shapes and sizes. A large gaggle of little green people talk loudly in their own little corner, taking up an entire table by themselves. Several different women with wings for arms, from leathery to feathery, sit perched up on the rafters, giggling and whispering among themselves. A group of dark robed, humanoid figured chat quietly away from the others. A pack of furred humanoid creatures, all looking just a bit different from each other, messily devour the flesh in front of them. A hulking beast of a woman stands behind a counter, clothed in rags and a ratty apron, chopping up large hunks of meat with a cleaver. Her skin is a slight yellow coloration, and she only has one eye. She's a bit fat, but still has quite a lot of muscles from what you can see. Oliver walks up, beaming as her usually does, pulling you along. "A bit of meat for the girl, Hm?"
The woman gives a sweet smile and nods. "One of those, eh?" She says in a strange accent, piling on raw meat onto a tray. The sight of it makes your mouth water, and you can feel the twisting hunger pains in your stomach once again. "Gretel here knows just what to serve, don't you worry." Oliver says with a slight chuckle and ruffles your hair. Soon enough, you're seated at a table, messily devouring your plate of food. Oliver seems to have looked away as you eat, preoccupied with the brickwork of the wall across the room, until one of the other monsters in the room calls his name, waving him over to their table. He leaves you unattended for the moment, but before you know it, the meat is gone from your plate, specks of blood covering your mouth and hands. Looking around, Oliver is distracted by a conversation at another table, and Gretel is busy mixing something up in a large pot behind the counter.

This is Boruto Quest, a quest set in the universe of Naruto. It is during the generation of Naruto's son, shortly after everyone has graduated from their Genin exam. I haven't kept up with the series beyond the end of the original one, so this one is intended to recapture the feel of that time of Naruto. I will not be incorporating the main show or the Boruto movie's plot into the quest, although some recognizable characters will be present. You play as a 12 year old Genin graduate named Takeshi. You have been assigned a Jounin squad leader named Hanto, and your two squadmates are Kichiro, a young delinquent, and Ai, a strange social outcast of a girl. You are of average skill in most aspects, although your sharp intelligence has recently been making itself apparent. Preparations for the final tournament of the Chunin Exams has begun, and Genin all over the Leaf Village training under wise masters. Shikamaru is in charge of your instruction, and you're currently in the middle of grueling training!

You meet with Shikamaru the next morning, and prepare to begin your training for the day. He approaches you, as stoic as ever, walking from the morning fog. Just about as well as I expected. Maybe better."
You smile warmly. "Thanks! It's been really hard work, but since it's all a part of the lessons it's worth it."
Shikamaru chuckles for a few seconds. "It's that simple, huh? Amazing."
Scratching your chin, you look at him in confusion. "Whaddya mean?"
He turns, and starts to walk away from you. "You have a heck of a will, Takeshi. There were other Genin in the exam, fighting for much more at stake, which much more potential to back them. But your will pushed right past all the deep, dark, and scary aspirations that the other Genin have."
He stops. "When I was your age and I took the exam, not even I can say that I was as chill as you are. The type of competition I had to deal with was bull, really. Gaara of the Desert, Sasuke Uchiha, and who'd a thunk /Naruto/ to be the big showstopper in the end. Definitely not me."
He looks back as he draws a kunai from his weapon's pouch and spins it around his finger. "But I'm rambling. Let's get down to brass tacks. What shinobi art would you like to be instructed in today, my young pupil?"
He says the last bit with a sarcastic grin. You get the sense that he's a tad bit too young to be pretending to be the wise old master, though you have no doubts in his actual wisdom. All this time he's had the demeanor of an old man, in fact.

A hazy white expanse of snow surrounds you and you couldn't be any more bored. It's the first time you've ever seen the weather phenomenon, and what should have been a road trip of a day or two instead has turned into a skull crushing slow grind across the interstates of the Eastern US.

So here you are, cramped and cold as obstacles and snow pass you by. There's nothing to do, your parents have offensively bad dad rock going, and the only thing you have here in the back seat to stave off your boredom is your phone.

Alright let's try something different for choosing what race to roll with for this civ. When you pick a race, give some sort of backdrop as to where they stand in the world, and what their (more or less) main goal will be for the duration of the civ, so that we have something to strive for. Now I wrote up some brief examples and ideas for how the votes can be presented, but feel free to go wherever you want it to.
Some example races for you guys. If any of you find any of these interesting have at it since I have ideas and stuff planned for all three options. However, don't let this stop you from writing up a thing for a race that you want to run with.

I'm a long-time war gamer whose group is going to run a 5th ed. DND campaign. while I grew up reading dragonlance and forgotten realms and have played the vidya like baldurs gate 1 and 2, this will be my first time playing a PNP RPG.
I want to make a memorable, off the wall character and i'm not that concerned about being absolutely optimal, just not totally useless. basically im also a huge wrestling fan and want to make a character based off of pro wrestling and more specifically the macho man. yes it needs to be 5th ed dnd (im sure there are other systems that could handle it better). its just a group of friends so im sure I could change a few things in DM fiat if need be.
Im thinking some sort of monk/bard hybrid or maybe seeing if I could replace dex with cha for a monk, but this is my first rodeo so I don't really know the system that well to really flesh it out mechanically. maybe have some bard spells to represent promos and getting hyped up. I was also wondering is it possible in dnd to things like suplex people?
I know this is essentially a stat me thread but id really appreciate it if you guys who are more familiar with 5th ed DND to give me an idea on how to make this work mechanically.

A Purple Knight Fighter could be good too. They use charisma for high persuasion and extend some of their powers to the group... which you could fluff as moves so awesome that they inspire your allies.
Or just go Totem Barbarian and put on a mask that represents your totem animal.
