What do you think is your favorite mechanics for attacking? Do you prefer the d&d style where its Stats+Levels or something where weapon skill ranks are involved? Would you rather throw one die and then add static or throw 8 and then add them together? Exploding Dice/Criticals? Opinions!

I prefer RuneQuest 6.
I prefer to keep it as stupidly simple as possible. A single throw, a successful hit does 1 damage, expanding crit range (On d20 say 16-19) that does 2 and maximum hit that does 3-4.
Describing attacks confers other benefits, such as changes in game status (unhorsing opponents, grappling the enemy to ground etc).

Hello /tg/, I need some help. I have a group of friends who never played tabletops that have decided they want to play D&D and they asked me if I could be the DM of the game and help them with the rules and everything else. The problem here is that I only ever had experiences as player and never as DM (and only with 3.5 and Pathfinder).
So I ask you: what's the fastest way to learn how to DM in D&D? Do you have any tips? Do I have to memorize the DMG?

(First things first, unlike Fledgling Super Quest, this is not an original setting. I am actually using a variation of rules from Mecha: the RPG and one of the 3 base settings within the book that I own. Don't be a cheater and spoil the surprise for those looking to play. Besides a setting is just a suggestion.)
Arion Mannis will rule Destiny Arbor. Only the Separatist Guard stand in his way.
Destiny Arbor is a system of eight planets, each terraformed and suitable for human life. Since the first colony ships landed centuries ago, the system has been ruled by an ancient monarchy: the Mannis Dynasty. Over the years, the Mannis family has, for the most part, been benevolent. They have ruled in the interest of the people and grown the fortunes of Destiny Arbot to rival any other long-standing Sol colony. However, that will soon change.
As the elderly King Forrest Mannis slowly wastes away on his death bed, his youngest son, Prince Arion, awaits the day he will inherit the kingdom. Unlike his father, Arion is manipulative and power hungry. Behind his dying father's back, he has taxed the worlds of Destiny Arbor into poverty, greedily consolidating the system's wealth for himself, with plans to amass a grand army and lead a crusading campaign to conquer the entire galaxy.
But Prince Arion's plan may be short-sighted. He has underestimated the will of his subjects. Under the strain of the mad prince's tyranny, five planetary baronies banded together to form the Separatist Guard: an army of freedom fighters dedicated to deposing the corrupt prince and establishing planetary independence. I saw Gorkamorka receiving a little attention on the board and thought /tg/ might be up for discussing its Hivebound cousin.
So my group of friends has agreed to get into a Necromunda campaign recently as our Mordheim game basically fell apart when 2 of the group left after Uni.
Ive decided to give the Ash Waste Nomads a crack and see how things go, I was just wondering what /tg/ thoughts on their strength and weaknesses were and if there were any tips on playing them?

Thinking of setting up a few games with some friends, and I need cheap terrain suggestions.
There's always cardboard and filler ruins, I know, and the Pringles can towers are classics.
But does anyone have any good ideas for cost-effective quick terrain?

Old plastic and cardboard tubes are great, backed up by cereal and other food boxes, you can make quick industrial terrain pretty quick, just spray paint it metal gray and copper.
Fruit netting and the like can also pass for grating if done right.
You might also consider old and broken electronics.

That was a pretty good movie, a sort of love-letter to spy movies. Very few action scenes, a lot of dialogue and spies doing spy things - a total opposite of shitfucks that were Bourne and modern Bond movies.
