This is Boruto Quest, a quest set in the universe of Naruto. It is during the generation of Naruto's son, shortly after everyone has graduated from their Genin exam. I haven't kept up with the series beyond the end of the original one, so this one is intended to recapture the feel of that time of Naruto. I will not be incorporating the main show or the Boruto movie's plot into the quest, although some recognizable characters will be present. You play as a 12 year old Genin graduate named Takeshi. You have been assigned a Jounin squad leader named Hanto, and your two squadmates are Kichiro, a young delinquent, and Ai, a strange social outcast of a girl. You are of average skill in most aspects, although your sharp intelligence, and your jack of trades skill set have brought you far. The final portion of the Chunin Exams is underway!

Sarada vs. Ai.
We'll be moving past the other fights in order to go on straight to your next one. If anyone would like to request any matches then please take a gander at this progression list.

You'll notice that Kagasi went straight from the first round to the semifinals because of an unbalanced number of contestants. It was randomly chosen between her, Yasu, and Anzai who would get that position.
Unless there's an overwhelming request for a specific fight, we'll seen be getting underway with your third match!

Ah yeah perfect timing. By the way people just read though some of the archive. I think Baruto may be using a Kote, if we go against him lets get the doche disqualified or at-least get it taken off him.

Ending off your training with Vegeta, Goku, and Gohan with a beam clash with the youngest of the saiyans, once again the boy continues to surprise you with the strength he has hidden away within himself. His power is still currently far below yours and the adult saiyans, but he's still come an incrdibly far way in a short amount of time. As your energy beam starts to finally ovewhelm him, the purple wave engulfing his yellow one, you let the attack drop, rather than actually risking injury to the boy.
As he starts to fall down to the Earth, you swoop in and grab him by his collar, putting the boy down onto the ground and checking him over for any injury. Aside from his exhaustion, he's fine.
"You did good Gohan, keep it up. Proud of ya." You tell him with a grin, messing up the boy's hair a bit as his father and Vegeta come down as well. Both looking rather pleased with his show.
The cheerful mood is slightly put off as your scouter pings, though. Reaching up to answer the communication line, your body freezes at the voice on the other end.
"You played your hand too soon, revealing yourself like that... Dear Cousin."
Frieza
He knows, his long range scouters must have picked up on you powering up, and no doubt he's already got technicians working on pinpointing your location. Your new power is no longer a secret from the monster that took everything from you, from Vegeta, and no doubt billions of others across the universe.

So, how's the planetary trade business going? No signs of the Emperium, I hope?
Before D&D 5e came out, my group and I played 4e into the Epic levels and came to the conclusion that while 4e was a fun wargame for the first 10 levels or so, it got bogged down by rules for powers that brought the game to a snail's pace the higher up in levels you went.
I just bought the core 5e books, and played a few low-level games. It's pretty fun so far, but how does this edition handle at the higher levels? Are things still relatively fast or does it also suffer from grinding to a halt as characters get overloaded with powers?
Pic not related.
>>44526820
We only made it to level 12, so I don't know.
Offhand I'd say yes, cause there's a shit-tonne of powers just in the PHB.
>>44526820
im dm-ing some friends right now and theyre averaging out at level 16-17, and the game speed seems a tad bit faster, since there are wayyy more things in the PHB alone than pretty much the entirety of 4e. Personally, it all depends on the DM and if he/she doesnt cram a million traps or monsters in a single encounter to slow the game down. Even though I enjoyed 4e, 5e is alot more fluid in gameplay and gives the DM more to work with.
>>44527267
>>44527365
Both of you prompted a "wait, what?" OP talks about 4e getting bogged down in rules. Both of you seem to respond by saying that it won't happen to 5e because it has MORE rules. Is that a coincidence of typos and lack of clarity, or am I missing something?
Are knives deadly in your setting?
>>44526771
My current setting is in the Stone-age with a strong focus on shamanism and the power of the spirits/ancestors/nature, focused through icons and relics. A pot of pure Springwater to summon rain spirits, amulets of brimstone to ward off burning ghosts, a club of bone and stone channels the strength of the one whose bone was used, etc.
A metal knife would be like a loose nuke in Syria. Everybody would want that shit. It'd give you exclusive access to a domain of spirits no-one has ever seen.
Depends. Get jumped by some lowlife thug with a rusty shank? You're going down, but you'll probably live as long as he didn't hit anything important. Get your throat slit by someone who knows how to use one? Hope the party knows where you are so they can find your body.
Pic semi-related.
>>44526771
Isn't this more of a system question than a setting question?

Recently: You beat Dick handily. You're next match will be against the first member of the Elite Four. Dick seems to have a way to control Regirock, though.
General rules:
There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.
Write-ins for all votes or always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.
Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as it comes up.
Combat involves rolls! Once there's a clear winner, we roll for the move accuracy/crit/secondary effect. Usually it's just three 1d100s. Sometimes you can get a modifier from circumstances, so be creative! Add flair, do tricks with moves, mess with terrain, whatever!
Call me out on a mistake and receive an apology butt or suggestive picture.

I have to end early in about 6-7 hours. Sorry.
You have my attention.
Its begun!
You head over to Regirock. It’s stone, pupiless eyes face you. There’s not much of a face to read.
“Are you okay? I mean, with Dick?”
It doesn’t react.
“What’s he doing to you?”
It leans back. He’s defeated. You feel like it was really important for him to win the match. Or at least, really important that he did what Dick told him too.
“Come on, why do you listen to that guy? What’s going on?”
“Get up!” Dick comes storming over. “Get up right now!”
Regirock struggles to move, but it can’t. Levi leaps over to your side and roars at it and Dick, causing him to back up and trip.
“Call it off!” Dick dramatically shouts. Levi doesn’t come within a foot of him, though.
“Levi!” You put a hand on her. She jerks reactively. “You did great, you won. Don’t worry about him. I can handle Dick.” That came out wrong.
“Okay! Break it up. That’s enough,” A ref runs onto the field. “You both need to clear the field.”
Dick is still processing what happened. Another ref comes in and they both start trying to get you off the field.
“This isn’t right,” Dick says. “I told you what would happen if you didn’t listen. I told you to win!”
Regirock’s eyes, or whatever they are, target the device in his hand. From this angle it doesn’t look broken.
The ref’s are becoming less polite about getting you off the arena floor.
>Wave to the crowd and leave.
>This is wrong. Make a distraction and steal the Pokeball after he retrieves it.
>Tell Regirock the device Dick has is broken. You’re pretty sure it is, at least.
>Report Dick to someone. That device can't be legal, right?
>Something else

Sounds like one convincing goblin.
You should be proud you role-played such a smooth talking NPC.
>>44523899
Be brutally honest with us:
Did your players seem to believe honestly nothing bad was going to happen?
Or were they like "yeah sure, whatever" before returning to their smartphones?
>>44523899
Sounds believable. A lot of players seem to think that the success of their characters is guaranteed either by what's on the character sheet - or failing that, by the GM.
What did your group say when their characters were killed and eaten?
Failbaddon has forces on cadia and has taken out the cadian gate.
The Tyranid hive fleet is on its way to fuck everyone over.
The Eldar are close to making Ynned a thing.
The dark eldar are.... actually, theyre still doing their thing from commoragh.
Grazkhull (I thinks thats how you spell it) is on his ever expanding WAAAAAAAAAAGH and yarrick still hasnt killed him yet.
The tau are.... actually, I dont know what the Tau are doing.
The necrons are.... still sleeping I guess? Szarekh is on his way to wake them all up though.
Chaos forces (Daemons) are on their way to support failbaddon.
And whats worse is that the EMPRAH is dying and no one knows how to stop it.
>>44523827
>How can Humanity win with the current circumstances in the world of 40k?
They can't. That's the whole point.
Roboute Guilliman is about to wake up.

The Ultramarines.
You are Tsukuda Ryouta. You... don't feel anything.
There is something calming in the lack of a need to put up a pretense to the contrary.
"I guess that explains some things..." Ryuu mutters, arms folded over his chest. He doesn't look pleased to hear it. "Do you remember the Academy, Ryouta? Our first lesson in the Human World, when we learned how to perform Konso. There was a war going on there, and we had to send the dead locals to Soul Society. You were the only guy who... didn't give a damn about it. You just got it done and didn't show a speck of nerves, like the instructors kept trying to teach us. It was pretty damn impressive how well you held up... or so I thought at the time, you know?"
You nod. You remember it, and you remember not even understanding why everyone else was so sluggish in their Soul Burials. You've felt nothing from it, just like from many other things.
You've felt nothing when you succeeded at the entrance exams into the Shin'o Academy. You've felt nothing from passing the tests there, from learning new material, from meeting new people, from making friends, from losing an unfair fight against a beautiful prodigy, from graduating and ending up in a prestigious position within the 12th Division. It has been this way since before you've entered the Academy, and it still remains that way now, in the company of a supposed friend.
Ryuu shakes his head. "But it seems that there's nothing to feel proud about, eh, Ryouta?" He pauses, looking up at the night sky. "...Truth be told, I'm still not sure if something like that is a good thing or not. In our line of work, it might be the best thing you could ask for. Dealing with dead people - people who've lost everything they had, well... It's kind of a pain, you know? I've heard it really gets to a lot of people. But outside of that?.."
(1/2)
>>44522463
The Shinigami pauses once more. When he continues, his tone is strict, lacking even a single note of the casualness present throughout the previously cheerful evening.
"...I think you need to make your mind up about what you're gonna do with it, Ryouta. You either tell everyone that you can't feel jack shit about them and save them and yourself the trouble... or you try your damn best to pretend that you do. I'm not telling you to be an actor or some crap, to laugh at people's jokes or put up smiles of bullshit politeness - that's not what 'feeling' is about, Ryouta. I think it's about doing your best for the people that care about you more than anything else. Do you get it?"
You nod again. It's not that you necessarily 'get it', but you do understand. You're not sure how to continue the conversation from there, and Ryuu makes no effort to, silently looking around, thinking.
"...Well, let's go back in, Ryouta. It's kind of late. Mind if I stay the night here?"
There are plenty of unoccupied rooms in your large house, so there shouldn't be a problem with that.
...
>>44522482
As you prepare to go to sleep, your adoptive mother enters your room, smiling meekly.
"Ryouta? Can I sleep here tonight?" She asks. You don't really mind, but you can't help asking why. "I spilled some tea on my futon. I can't sleep on it when it's like that..."
"Why not use another futon?"
"W-well, you know how my room is, Ryouta! There are books all over the place! There's no space to fit it anywhere..." She chuckles a little bit as she heads to your closet and takes another futon out. You help her set it down on the floor. Shiori doesn't seem happy with where you place it at first, so with her guidance, you move it around until it eventually ends up near your own futon. "There! That's perfect!"
You lie down underneath the warm sheets, and, after your mother does the same, turn off the lights. After a short while, you hear something.
"Ryouta, are you asleep?" Shiori whispers. You mutter a 'no', so she continues. "I'm... really happy that you've made a friend." Her hushed tone manages to sound nearly gleeful. "He seems like a good guy, so... Well, I just wanted you to know that. Goodnight, Ryouta."
...
>"I think you should know something..."
>"...Goodnight."
>Other. (Write-in).

Ban 8ED and 9ED Edition, the Sequel.
>Ban Blood Moon because while it wrecks Tron and Amulet Bloom (which is great), it also randomly snipes tricolor decks like Jund and Abzan, who need the greedy manabase to be competitive.
>Banning Blood Moon makes Amulet Bloom and Tron broken, so ban Summer Bloom and ban Urza Tron.
>The only notable cards left in 8ED and 9ED are Choke, Boil and Boiling Seas. Might as well ban them because literally nobody likes these cards. Sleight of Hand also gets removed, but Wizards loves nerfing Storm even if it sucks.

I heard a story once about a young Russian man who inherited $20 billion and decided to eventually get married.
For his bachelor party, he invited all his boys to Russia, escorted them in a black car right from the runway and they were driven 4 hours deep into the Russian forest. They stopped at a random hotel for the night, and then in the morning, they were dropped off in the middle of the forest.
All of a sudden, a bunch of Russian men riding horses and dressed in traditional Russian battle armor surround the guys. They tell the guys that, in honor of their boys marriage, they are going to get suited up, ride horses, and rape and pillage a nearby village.
I kid you not, their billionaire friend purchased a random, small Russian village deep in the forest, rented 54 of the best prostitutes in Russia (18 guys x 3 girls each) to act as the "villagers", rigged the entire place to be suitable for raping and pillaging, and finally, placed 18 huge cubes of frozen ice inside each of the houses in the village. These giant ice cubes contained precious jewels, Rolex watches, money, and other valuables.
The 18 guys were all given a time limit, and the girls were incentivized with money to distract the guys as much as possible in their quest to break down the solid ice blocks.
I will let your imagination run wild.

The Wensley brothers have the kind of shack that you'd expect to see from an underground farming tools smuggler, assuming that profession even existed in the first place. Knowing this is not the case, you simply have no choice but to be baffled at just how shaky and weird a building can be, even though there are obvious signs that it has been scrapped down and rebuilt, by order of someone you might have just met. You strongly suspect they recycled the wood panels and many other building resources, which is a good thing but at the same time quite dodgy simply by virtue of being so obvious.
The Wensley brothers are canines too, just like Luna, but of clearly different breed: they have much leaner tails and their ears have a strange shade of brown hair with irregular tufts at the edges, their skin colour is also a little off, a kind of light, almost yellowish brown that you can't quite place in any geographical area you're familiar with.
Knowing you're not the sort of presence that goes unnoticed, you're not surprised when they both interrupt whatever it is they're doing on a workbench, haphazardly held together with a stone block for a leg, a few bolts to connect some sketchy wooden beams and more tools than there should be at one time.
“Welcome welcome!”, the first says.
“To the Wensley brothers' shack!”, the second continues.
“We'll have you served in no time!”.
“What do you need, if we might ask?”.
You instinctively check whether they're identical twins but they seem to be too different. Well, they're just not identical, which automatically discards that option, although they are similar enough that you can tell they're brothers even without using your blood rituals. Thankfully so, because it would be weird to ask a couple strangers for their blood.
