What are some upcoming RPG games to look forward to in 2016?
My shitty homebrew
There's the new Traveller
I'm looking forward to Shinobigami. I don't know if there's anything else out there that really interests me, but part of that is not staying on the pulse as much as I used to.
What's the best setting for a generic one-shot campaign? My friends (who have never done any tabletop before) want to try out 5e and asked for a totally average and generic D&D game. Which I don't really have a problem with. I'm thinking either Faerun or Points of Light?

have a really small look around, but stay near the meeting point
Fortress was a mess, One giant Fortress on tracks housing smaller ones in its what-used-to-be wide hangar. Nothing looked the same, it took some bright minds, decades of dedication and tonnes of junk and spare parts to create this beast.
The gas mask of yours was a bliss; without it, you would probably inhale lots of these hazardous vapours spewed from the fortresses.
A couple of flags wavered amongst the toxic clouds, they weren't very visible but you figured out what they were for.
Two were weapon/amour dealers, three were for food and other supplies,...

How does your character dress?
>>44521468
Harsh as in what? Hot, cold, windy, rain, draught, floods, hail? Or just rapid extreme changes
>>44521468
I dress in layers in any case you have.
Hot? Take some off
Extremely hot? Put lightweight light colored layers on
Rainy? Time for those waterproof layers!
It's basic survival gear at that point.

But for now, nothing. Sorry.
I would not solicit /tg/ for campaign advice. People here have fucking horrible ideas.
>Go to FedEx to print a rulebook PDF because my printer can't print 2 sides on the same page
>Lady at FedEx says the can't legally print it without permission from the publisher
>The rulebook is WEG d6 Star Wars...
Well fuck. Any advice on getting around copyright bullshit so I can have a physical rulebook at the table than having to pass around a laptop during a game?
Print every other page
Then put the paper in the opposite way back in the printer and printer the other pages.
Then spiral bound the whole thing.
>>44520959
Yea that shit has come here to Australia too. Wouldn't even print out a bunch of diagrams for TKD patterns THAT I DREW because they were taken from my branches website and I needed their permission.
Does FedEx have a self service printing setup? As long as you're the one to print it, they're safe. Otherwise, you could turn it into a text format and when asked if this is yours, reply "yes I typed this up".

This. Do you not understand how manual duplex works, OP?
Savage Worlds thread?
Is the Deluxe version of the Fantasy Companion meaningfully different from the older version? I can't seem to find a PDF of it anywhere and I'm tempted to buy it, but I'm not sure if it's going to actually be useful to me.
>>44520956
I've used the Explorer's Edition Fantasy Companion with the Deluxe Edition rules with basically no hassle. I can't say for sure if the Deluxe Edition of the Fantasy Companion has any changes to it, as I don't have it either. But it if you like, OP. I'm afraid I can't help you here.
This thread is actually rather topical. Yesterday I revised a Savage Worlds setting I've been working on for over a year or so, on and off.
>>44520956
There's a new edition of the fantasy companion?
Bolt can no longer be charged to do 3d6 damage.
Guts as a skill is gone.
That's about it. Very little else impacts a standard fantasy game.
How does your character carry all their shit?
Bag of holding motherfuckers. Always save up to get one first thing.
Riding dog with lots of pouches on the saddle
Stuff it in the car.
So, I need some advice.
I started a game nearly two years ago. It was in a bad system that I started revising, and that was probably my first mistake (since corrected). I have days where it feels like nothing happens, days where I feel like I have to shove the players to get them to do anything, when there's simply roleplay when there's actual plates to be juggled. In two years, I have not completed four dungeons. The first arc of a written story out of six isn't done.
Now to be fair, not all of this is connected. There were timing and scheduling...

Something that I wish my DM would do more of is character arcs for each of the players. I get most excited when I realize we're doing something related to a PC's backstory. I love the world we're in, and I know we have a larger overarching story to follow, but seeing how the DM ties in the character's pasts makes me feel like we're actually a part of the world instead of just cruising through it with little connection.
So far our DM has been throwing in little hints here and there, but recently we've been doing a side story line for our...

This. Sounds like something you should do, OP.
Maybe a former friend of one of the PCs is working with the BBEG. Perhaps an item they lost is rumoured to be in one of the dungeons. Their home town could be attacked by bad guys.
Most players don't seem to mind when you have some leeway with their characters' backstories. Except for the ones who write detailed family trees and complex background information. Those are best left alone, since anything you do is probably wrong.
>>44520399
Truncate your plot.
A lot.
Seriously, as someone doing a long set game, cut out huge chunks of it, shove parts together, make it faster.
Do what >>44521161 and >>44523214 say, add personal interest.
Don't do a negative thing like kill off backstory NPCs, but have them ask for help.
Get the players in trouble and have em sort things out. Give them a good longer term goal that they...

So finally after years of diligent and faultless service you managed to attain the rank of Magos on your Forge World.
As your first task as Magos given to you by the Archmagos, you are to come up with a weapon or piece of technology (if not a whole set of equipment) for the average soldiers of The Emperor Omnissiah that would also be easy to manufacture on a large scale...or anything useful to the Imperium. In order for you to achieve your task, the Archmagos gives you access to all the STC the Forge World has. And since you are now a Magos, you can actually go and experiment...

What do guardsmen have in the way of ration equipment?
Give 'em all a metal food bowl. That'll cover a kidney from shrapnel.
Hey guys, I used to play MTG a long ass time ago, so I don't really belong here, I just don't know where to ask this one specific and probably stupid question.
In Magic: The Gathering, the old sealed decks are worth a fuckton of money just because it's like a lottery ticket for shit like Black Lotus and similar cards.
My question is, is it possible to - with the right equipment - weigh a black lotus (or similar) playing card to such precision that you could weigh sealed decks to determine if it contains a rare card? I'm sure each card doesn't...

>>44519543
lol no, what even made you think black lotuses or whatever would be a different weight to other cards?
>>44519559
I dunno, just assumed that the ink of the artwork would affect the weight eventually after a certain point.
>>44519577
They've all got the same amount of ink, it's just in different patterns m8
How comes roleplaying games are considered such a poor medium to run drama/relationship based stories (that is, where combat or investigation or solving those external challenges is considered secondary to the character interactions and their personal problems)? I think we're past the age where we'd consider any show that doesn't involve gunfighting to be an inane soap opera. Wouldn't RPGs lend themselves especially well to those, at least on paper?
>>44519312
Yeah, but why make a game out of it, with rules and restrictions, when you can just go into improv drama?
And who would come together on a Saturday night to play a realistic drama? Not every player has those capabilities to make it truly realistic and you probably get some drama already everyday. The reason why series like house MD works as a single narrative, but I doubt adding interactive aspects to them can be done in a good and meaningful way.
>>44519312
>Wouldn't RPGs lend themselves especially well to those, at least on paper
>drama/relationship based stories
You don't need a game to RP. Most people can Role Play just fine, and enjoy it. At that point, the Game part of the RPG gets in the way of immersing oneself in the character.
You don't need the RP interrupted to find a GM adjudicating "you wooed Sandra successfully, your bond has gone from 'close friends'...
