One of the things I rather enjoy about WECON is the fact it doesn't have nukes/balefire strikes.
That while their effect is known, none of the bayou hints at being from the strikes, but rather just time and the environment proper.
It makes it a far more intriguing locale compared to say Hoofington or other places that try and hinge on "We wuz nukclear important!!!!" to carry the background.
Instead it has the delightful feel that its important for the story, that its a place that exists, and is all the better for not trying to force a feeling of the place being special.

With days ever lengthening, it would appear that spring holds no small affinity for Princess Celestia. Perhaps summer is even moreso- but really, does she have a particularly favorite season? Or is she content to take in any time of year? Whatever the case, the royal gardens, menagerie and hedge-maze seem to at least point to some outdoorsy recreation for the royal head of state.

With all the animals out of hibernation, Fluttershy's likely to have been as busy as any farm pony recently. Everything's probably fine with them, but she just wouldn't be doing her part if she didn't check to make sure! Especially since here's so much to tell them about what happened in the last three months. And sleeping that long might mean they could use a massage, too. Good thing she's trained for that! Spring is so exciting!
