The standard A2 birdcage flashhider doesn't have a lot of side blast, so there's no issues having a light in that position. I shot several hundred rounds today and didn't even get carbon buildup on the lens.
Some muzzle devices will put out significant pressure to the sides, I've seen surefire weaponlights that were placed next to them and had their finish basically removed and lots of carbon buildup on the lens but the light still functions. Just need to clean the lens every once in a while.
Do infantry and other combat arms have to wear ear and eye protection in combat? If so, how do their earplugs affect their ability to hear and listen to combat?

Usually an admin pouch of some kind filled with pens/sharpies, and other small shit that doesn't really go anywhere.
I know medics will stick extra medical pouches there.
Personally last time I was doing an airfield seizure I had a special fold out pouch that you could stick a map in. All I had to do was fold the pouch out and look down at my chest to look at my map. It beat having to drag it out of my pocket or another pouch since I was driving an ATV.
