why is it that straight pull bolt action rifles died out while refined knockoffs of the Dryse needle gun were dominant for literally the rest if the bolt gun's tenure? why aren't straight pulls made commonly anymore? could a straight pull be as accurate, if I could make a precision long range rifle in 6.5 creedmore on a straight pull, what advantages would the mauser/enfield/ nagant action have over it?

Easier to manufacture the standard bolt action than it is to manufacture the straight pull action.

That, and nobody has found a way to make a straight pull as precise as a standard mauser tier action. Sure, you have the K31, but that's not really any more accurate than your normal bolt gun.

I see, thanks for being honest with me, doc. I guess my dream of a 1600 yard 6.5 Creedmoor straightpull rifle is just that. which of the other actions doesn't have that shitty cock on unlocking feature that makes the initial motion of the throw more difficult?

Lee Endfields are as quick as or quicker than a Straight pull, are they not?

Hello /k/,

I have a UV-5R5 Baofeng radio due on Tuesday with a programming cable.

I heard someone mention something about CHIRP and programming threads, I didn't see anything in the sticky pertaining to radios. Any information you guys can provide to me that would be useful?

Hey there. Glad to see a radio thread on here. Got my ham license and love the bao feng regarless of what other older hams say about chinese made.

http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_ErrorMess.php#error1

This website helped me a lot to program with chirp and get started
>>
>>29719533

After you get the drivers programmed and chrip set up. One thing that kicked my ass was that I had to plug in the usb cable to radio and turn the volume knob all the way up. Not sure why that worked.

Between my brother and my family we have 4 uv5r radios and you may have to figure out what firmware the radio is on first to determine the drivers.

I had to do a good bit of reading and googling to get it all to work but once you get chirp working, you'll never go back to manually programming channels.
>>
>>29719533

Please keep in mind that you need a ham license to use the radio. Also, it is illegal to use the uv5r on the common frs freqs because frs is limited to .5 watt.

If you don't have a ham license then I recommend staying off of repeaters or you'll piss off some old fart hams.

How the hell was the DPRK able to get all the different ammos necessary for the hugely diverse small arms inventory they used during the Korean War? I mean they had Sumois, PPSh-43s, K98s, Arisakas, MP-40s, and many others on the same battlefields.

In a word: China

Following the communist victory in 1949, and the founding of Chinese weapons factories, the Chinks threw some of the WWII surplus given to them by various parties and captured from the Japs after 1945 to their allies in Vietnam and NK.

My buddy has one. I like shooting it; it's a fun rifle for what it is, but I don't think the intended purpose is really all that great. I find it overpriced for what it is and a Marlin 1895 .45-70 would do everything that it tries to do, except better.
