Looking go buy either a Mossberg 500 or Mossberg Maverick to store at home for home-defense. Leaning towards Maverick, currently, since I've read they are basically the same, but only at a cheaper price.
Thoughts and opinions on these two? Any other recommendations are welcome.

I am a male-to-female transgender person living in a very conservative neighborhood. I have plans to move to a more tolerant location in a couple more years, but until that time I need protection. I fortunately know of a gun dealer who would sell me a gun since I've gotten to know him better and he doesn't really care about what I am as long as he gets his money and that I do not use it for anything illegal.
Now what kind of gun should someone like myself get? I am thinking of a handgun, of course, like a pistol. but I am fairly new to the world of guns. What do you think, /k/?
Also, other than gender dysphoria which is well under control now, I am perfectly sound mentally.

Well /k/, I had to have the inevitable conversation about guns with my dad today while I was home for the holidays. I talked about how I wanted a "good bolt action" and he keeps trying to talk up modern Savage Arms guns and other sad polymer tacticool garbage. I kept showing him a bunch of mosin nagants that I was eyeing at the local gun show and he can't understand why I want one. It certainly doesn't help that he was a long time veteran in the Navy, and is extremely hesitant to give the Russians any credit for any firearm that they have ever produced. I explained how it is a legendary rifle, and the conversation that followed was... painful

What do you keep in your car?
Which of these two guns is better suited for use as a car rifle?
I'm looking for something to possibly keep in the trunk of a Corolla. I narrowed it down to these two because they fit my basic constraints for a rifle intended to be kept in the back of an econobox sedan.
-Iron sights
-Bolt action
-Full size cartridge with capable of firing modern FMJ and Soft Point rounds
-Can be fed from stripper clips
-Not expensive, can easily be repaired if broken or replaced if stolen or broken beyond my abilities to fix
Really, the main thing I would have a rifle in the trunk for is to dispatch animals if needed. I would get something like a Ruger Gunsite Scout, but it's pretty expensive for something I plan on putting in the trunk and occasionally plinking with.
Mauser in .308 imo. Some converted rifles are pretty baller and cheap

Is Sikhism the most /k/ religion out there? One of its laws is you have to carry a weapon at all times and be ready to defend yourself or others if the need should arise (technically a kirpan but many Sikhs say that guns should also be considered under their religion since a knife is inadequate for defense in this day and age).
