Hey /k/, I have a question to ask because I'm too stupid to know any better. I just finished my paperwork for a CCL and I'm now just waiting for the license to come in. Problem is, the only hand gun I have at the moment to carry is a Remington R1. My question is what's the best way to carry the pistol and what is a recommended holster?

That's a very personal, very subjective decision. I like IWB at about 2:30ish.

Carry is almost entirely based on what is comfortable for you.
Best draw needs to be considered, but if you have to constantly adjust the holster or gun while you're carrying it you'll hate life and eventually stop carrying it at all because it bugs you.
So really you need to find out what is comfortable for you, something gun clubs and friendlier stores will help you with if you ask. Try out a few carry positions and see what is comfortable but is also quick to draw from. This is why most people like carrying at 2 o'clock (or 10 for lefties); they don't get prodded by the gun constantly and it's quick and easy to draw with.
Just make sure when you pick a position you practice drawing until it's as natural as wiping your ass.
1911's are too clunky so you won't be able to draw it quickly.
Not to mention it's only 7+1. You're better off to have a tactical 9mm with more capacity.

It's a lot of fun. Ringing steel @300 yards. I have a Savage Axis in .223 and I enjoy shooting it more than my AR.
It's a mental challenge to make the gun go off as a surprise, while holding right on target. The lead sled style rests are nice to sight it, but get boring to shoot regularly with them. I'm trying to get better shooting laying prone

What are some /k/ grade books you could recommend?
Monster Hunter International by Larry Correia is hands down the best fictional series involving highly detailed and accurate firearm operation and useage. Larry was a dealer and competition shooter before writing professionally and it shows in his writing. Hell, one of the guns is practically a character (saiga 12 with a fun switch and a bunch of goodies).
What do you recommend?

I like MHI a lot, and have read everything Larry has written, but it is going way too far to call it the best depiction of guns in written fiction. He wrote the guns more for "hey wouldn't this be cool" or "how would this work out in a fantasy setting" and to complement the characters more than to reflect an attempt at realism.

I got this yesterday for 120 plus tax. I've been wanting a .22 revolver for a while so I was pretty pleased when my store started carrying them.
This picture I think shows the color of the grips better.
I'm unwrapping it on Christmas, but I love it so far. It's my first shotgun.
Not here yet, but just ordered a Finn M39 from classic, hand selected of course. Can't wait.
