I had that optic on my ak5c. I expended 3 rifles but only one optic.
Its bulky, ugly and the dot is 4 MOA's but its reliable as fuck and holds a zero.

You're not going to find a PMM, the PM however can be gotten for around 200-300 dollars, the highest i've seen was 550.. The best ones around are the East German ones but there really isn't a bad makarov so to speak. There is no external safety, it only holds 8+1 of the somewhat underpowered 9x18 round, and they actually aren't that bad for cc. There is also the P-64, a polish pistol that is vary similar, fires the same cartridge, and has an external safety however it holds 2 less bullets. Also...

Whats the most effective SHTF firearm someone in Northern NJ in the mountains can own? Basically the only requirements are 15 rounds, fixed stock, and no flash hider or silencer.
.308 or 5.56? 16, 18, or 20 inch barrel? Any accessories besides an optic? What optic and what magnification? Are 2 stage flip up magnification optics preferred?

Just get a cheap starter AR-15 / AK variant and just build it up from there. My best gun is probably my first because I got some cheap $499 AR-15 and just started upgrading parts I felt need to be upgraded from triggers to barrels.

I've shot bolt action before. Was on a varsity 22lr team in high school. Grew up in AK and hunted for moose with a .308. I'm comfortable with an AR15 / AK platform

I'd suggest you not buy any of that stuff and go with civilian gear instead.
Wear multiple layers instead of one or two thick ones. If you're a bit chilly when standing still, your clothing is optimal for movement.
If you want a milsurp jacket then the best place to look is a military surplus (army navy store). And don't get surplus military boots, take it from someone who's worn them, they hurt your knees and legs.
Do you answer your door with a gun? I don't even live in a bad neighbourhood or anything, but I always make sure I have my pistol in my hand when I answer the door just in case.
Is this wrong or justified? I have a fence around my yard and I assume anyone that wants to enter it (beyond my no trespassing signs, dog signs, and the fence itself) could potentially do me harm.
