Howdy /k/ameraden, I am in need of assistance.
I'm planning out my first AR build, which I'll be pursuing sometime this summer. I'm familiar with all but 2 things: the gas system tuning and barrel selection.
Barrel selection is more a matter of practicality, since I'm going to be subjecting to some pretty rough use if my past use with my buddies' AR is any indication. I was thinking of a standard chrome-lined barrel, 14.5 inches, with a 1:8 twist, but I'm wondering if I'd be better served with a CHF barrel. Also what profile is going to be durable but not heavy as hell?
Next the Gas system. I know that mid and carbine length systems overlap, so is there an advantage to one or the other?
Lastly I need a rail, and I'd like to save weight in some way. Is there a better option than keymod?

How effective (or not) is 25acp?
At what maximum range is it useful for self-defence? If you hit anywhere other than head or heart is it any more effective than a menacing gaze?

I've got an Astra Colt in .25 and I wouldn't trust my life to it at 7 yards. When I carry it, it's as a BUG in my pocket. The kind of gun you press into someone's ribs and mag dump to get them off you.

Getting my first center-fire pistol when I turn 21 in a few months. I've saved up about $1000 over the past year just so I can actually have a decent birthday, cause my family has a habit of being a bunch of fags and getting me really lame stuff. Anyway,
I'm thinking on getting the Glock 19 for concealed carry. All the reviews check out pretty well, and I'll also get a SureFire light attachtment and some Trijicon night sights. BUT
If I didn't go with that option, what would be a better use of $1000 for a concealable pistol in 9mm or larger? BTW this isn't my first experience with a pistol. I've qualed with the M9 and own a Browning Buckmark that I'm a fan of.

The Fulcrum is a fast fighter with excellent maneuverability.
