The other members of your patrol don't seem bothered by this at all and a couple of them join in and make racist jokes about how he had it coming.

Read a book. No seriously, the only time you will ever hear about any of these things is from books; either from ones that deal specifically with Poland in the war or from really really good books that deal with the western front of the war as a whole.
Sadly, Poland lost, and then it got taken over by the Soviets, so no one gave a shit about all the awesome stuff they did in those first few weeks. No one wants to make a documentary about losers or Soviet lapdogs, which is how Poland is most often portrayed. There will never be a TV miniseries about the Battle of Westerplatte...
