Not OP but can we just omit anime and other general autism from this thread?

Steve Huston's figure drawings are really nice.

Do you ever drink and draw? How does it affect your abilities?

Once after downing half a bottle of whiskey I did a shitty Moonman drawing. Not a good experience I would not recommend
>>
I'd say two or three beers and I can draw just fine, maybe even a little looser which is nice. Anything past that and it's a pretty big drop in quality.

Is trying to reproduce the drawings in Hogarth's book the good way to progress?
I recently started "reading" it and I'm just reproducing his figures while trying to understand what going on

Or should I go back to drawing photos of figures to practice

You literally do need more Loomis, memery aside fäm
>>
>>2599988
I don't really like Loomis, I think Hogarth's book is much more "organized"
When I see the book of Loomis I don't really know what to do with those informations. Loomis seems more condensed and maybe expect more of the reader?
>>
>>2599991
Definitely true, though at least you could do with Proko's explanation of how to do the head as he chews Loomis up for those who find him too dull and boring (like me e.g.)

they have always enchanted me,
I've always thought there's something magical in them,
whoever made them must have been one hell of a man

anyways do you have more?

jesus trying to catch a caterpie - 2016
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
While this may initially read as a pointless picture, I would like to dissuade you from such a dismissive stance.

'jesus trying to catch a caterpie' by David©aplan is a critical examinations into the subjects of religion, modernity, technology, and the continuation of art.

In such, a certain spirituality is addressed, being the three-fold comparison of religion, or aesthetic representation of such, the pursuit of consumerism and the escape into digital space.
Each represents a certain form of escapism and artifice.
The painting, store, and digital-fictional caterpillar show how the popular interests of general Western society rely on man-made environments and objects.
The sole representation of the natural world is a facsimile, reminding us that our outlook on ecological matters rely on trend.

The capture via phone being intentionally made present shows us the new viewing device of our age, as our eyes are made obsolete by the glowing digital screens.

The fact that Christ is made translucent reflects on the Hegelian idea of Aesthetics, Spirit and Religion, in such that we are shown that Pokemon Go represents a buildingblock for the XXVIth century's Zeitgeist, and that via the convalescence of such factors truths into our current modes of being are made clear.

Overall, a striking social commentary that lends a deeper metaphysical meaning to the affairs of human and heaven.

Figured this is the most appropriate board to ask this:

I'm not an artist, just tangentially interested in art and design, and one thing that has been bothering me lately is how this art style has become so prevalent. "C-shaped" mouths, puffy cheeks, small and widely spaced apart eyes, red "tumblr" noses, spaghetti limbs and bodies lacking any sort of definition whatsoever.

Even otherwise competent artists who aren't just chasing after the bottom-of-the-barrel Steven Universe/Adventure Time aesthetic have as of late begun incorporating several aspects of this style into their works, most notably the faces, and I'm wondering, why? Do people find it cute and aesthetically pleasing? Is it the west's equivalent to the moe anime art style?

What does /ic/ think about this trend?

It's the result of the decades of jews undermining artistic progress so that people become disenfranchised from their peoples' culture and the cohesion within nation states slowly dissolves until the citizens finally beg to be conquered by old families of internationalist elites.

A chore to get papers in and shit. not much people. Better off just being a group of people than a club.

But this was from a community college so there is that also.
>>
>>2599386
Yeah. It was shit.

It's called "drawing class", but
You never learn drawing
.

All you do is learn shit about the graphic point (literal circular blob), graphic line (spoiler: A fucking line) And a bunch of useless 70's to late 80's shit about graphic design.

The only thing that was worth was the color theory part. Everything was a waste of time.
>>
It was "alright" to be honest. Most of the time it's made up of people who don't know what they're doing. Or why they showed up there on the first place. And a lot of them are socially inept. You always have one or two people who focus on actually doing something art related. Also you have that group of people who brought over a bunch of friends to do nothing and fuck around.

That's my experience with it.

I'm fucking autistic as shit over brush settings.
I steal so much brushes from other artists that it clogs up the little box for them on SAI.

I can't bring myself to delete them because they may be similar in what lines they produce they also have very small differences.

What the hell should I do?

He had a stroke while typing.

I'm curious to know what /ic/ thinks of Tan Zhi Hui. Personally I think he's a great example of an extremely stylized artist who can still show off a great amount of skill. Although I imagine the severeness of his work may turn off a lot of people.
