I draw consciously since 2005.
I learn French and Japanese since December 2015.

Currently I am already able to have basic conversations in both languages.
But my drawing ability is a joke.

The key? I do daily language studies in a linear fashion.

I need a program. /ic/. I need to be told what to do everyday, until I start to like it.
I need easy-to-munch tasks, in order to grind my skill. No matter how long it takes, as long as the daily portions are small enough to handle.

Can we discuss about creating a study program or something of the sort? Have any of you ever set clear-cut daily goals and stuck to it?

This is my schedule right now.
If youre only doing easy bite-sized tasks then you will barely improve unless you are a beginner.

Worse than a beginner, I'm a seasoned neverachiever, full of vices in need to be broken down and rebuilt.

And even if bite-sized doesn't provide everything I need, it certainly does more than 10 years of random energy spikes.

This is the best tip i can give you

You need to stop relying on motivation.

Motivation is a cheap plastic korean knockoff of discipline that will break after 10 minutes of playing with it.
If you don't have the discipline to force yourself to practice then you don't really deserve to get good. If you're searching for structure, might i recommend reading the sticky?

If you don't have a solid visual library, drawing without a reference is really hard.

Why is art so fulfilling? I find it difficult to relate with non-artist normies who spend their time consuming tv and videogames all day instead of creating.

Even if art doesn't get me anywhere just being able to put my world and creation on paper feels amazing, I guess i can connect with writers because they have a similar dream

I feel the exact way. I think a lot of people don't know how to teach themselves things and when they reach that stage as a kid where you realize your drawings are childish they don't know how to get any better and then passive consumption of media becomes attractive because it's easy and addictive
>>
>>2487299
Non-artist normies don't all spend their time consuming TV and videogames. There are many ways to create or simply feel fulfilled.

>the tracers still get regular commissions

Can someone please explain this to me? Do this people paying have no idea they are clearly tracing? I'm so confused.
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Maybe the commissioner just care about getting a drawing they're satisfied with. I like chocolate, but I don't care if it's fairtrade or not. My goal is to have chocolate that tastes good to me. If someone makes money by tracing other people's shit, good for them. Apparently they found a place in the market the original artist didn't bother to fill.
>>
Try explaining to a normie what tracing means and why it's bad.

That's why.

>drawing over someone else's work
>it means you don't have to put any effort into making the shapes look like a person

It's not a difficult concept anon. Most normies would have done tracing of their own back when they were 5

Anyone here studying to be a medical illustrator?

I have an associate's in art, and I'm almost done with a bachelor's in kinesiology.

I checked this out before, but dropped it for whatever reason, but now it's even more so attractive.

My skills are kinda shit. The only type of practice I've been getting since I finished my AA is doodling in the margins of my notes. I've gotten compliments on the doodles, but I havent tested myself much with depth, color and proportion.
The schools for MI are very competitive, they only allow about 16 people in a year... and I've seen some examples of grad work, they're pretty amazing and I feel like I could work my way up to that level with enough time.

They have you make a portfolio of about 20 pieces. From figure drawing to still life. I've got nothing.
I'm thinking of working on that while I finish up my last semester and get some hospital work afterward for funds.

So far I've been seeing a trend of accepted students studying at an art school for a year, Atelier's were mentioned. Anyone have any experience in that?

Intuition says that they'll be looking at your Skills at copying.
I have no credibility but it seems like the program will he admitting you on academic record and skills at copying things.

Bassicly, they want someone who shows intelligence and shows the potential of becoming a human photocopier.

Don't focus on anything you're not great at already. If you've only got a limited skill set work with that skill set and make 20 pieces. Don't show off anything you can't do well. They're looking for your potential to be virtuosic, not your virtuosity.
>>
>>2498535
You seem confident for having no credibility, but it sounds like good advice.

From what I've seen, average admitted GPA is 3.78, which is pretty high compared to other medical area grad school GPAs, so you might be right that they focus on academics a bit more than set rendering experience.
>>
Don't they mostly use 3D for this nowadays?

Drawing medical illustrations by hand seems awfully retro to me and I would be deebly gonserned of it being a dead end career.

Hey folks
as an artist, i feel like it's a really practical skill for me, i mean i find it easy to draw something when i have a clear image in my head and that is why i often end up drawing fanart
although art is my favourite thing, i feel like i am not very creative. do you have any resources/tips on how to become more imaginative, etc?
any help is appreciated senpai

I don't really know any resources on how to get more creative. I think it's better to look for places you can find ideas. For me, that is always having paper and a pen or pencil on me so I can sketch what I see. Things that interest me, like trees, buildings, people walking and sitting around. Others have big folders on their PC with a lot of artwork they like. There probably is a theme or art that you are drawn to. That's probably also why fanart works for you. What more interests you?

Creativity comes from fooling around.
You have to keep on trial and errorring until you get something good.

This guy's a musician, but he explains the creative process pretty well and how creative people create things.

Ted Talks are generally geared towards academics, but there's things to get out of some of their videos.
https://www.ted.com/talks/julie_burstein_4_lessons_in_creativity?language=en

Creativity isn't something that you work on with exercises. It's something you need to keep on doing.

thanks for the advice mate
i usually like interesting colors and surreal stuff, i like mythology, symbolism, history, pretty pretentious stuff usually i guess
i often write ideas down when im on the train or stuff, but when i get to work it suddenly all seems really stupid to me. like there is no real value to what im working on. idk

Hey so I have 2 questions I thought maybe someone here could help me on;

I have saved on my computer three of these paintings from some year 12 (age 16-17) New Zealand student from the NZQA art folio boards about 2007-2009 and I'm wondering if it seems at all possible to hunt down who the artist was. I'm not sure why I didn't note the artist as I saved it at the time but from what I can remember I'm not sure the site even named the artist to begin with.

Secondly what is the word on using un-credited (e.g. artist unknown) art in university assignments? Would it be legit if I just clearly stated the artist as unknown and that I don't claim to be the artist? I believe in crediting the artist where-ever possible, and damn are obscure New Zealanders hard to find!

P.s. I don't really know anything about deep web or whatever so I'm not sure the capabilities.

Sorry if wrong board or whatev

Anon, i haven't read Loomis but i am drawing portraits from over three years.
And i can tell you that these two peraons don't look the same.
The proportions are not at all same. And in my opinion details of measurements and proportions matter and yes that of shading is a sexondary thing.

Do I have bad luck or is this the new norm?

Last January I paid in full for a single commission, the artist is still working on it but haven't finished and has been finishing other newer commissions in the mean time. Then in late December I asked another artist for something, paid him and have yet to see a sketch. He told me he was in the hospital for a fever in December.

What is the average work time for a single image with no background? Why does it take these people so long? They got their money, why can't I get my art? And I won't be mentioning names.

No background? 2 weeks TOPS. Sounds like you got scammed or taken. You paid in full, nothing you can do now.
>>
You shouldn't have paid in full at the start.
>>
I'm sorry OP, that's not how it should be.

since i was a kid i always wanted to draw, and now that i'm 19 i'm still fairly shit at it, but the thing that makes me feel bad about it is that since 3 years ago or so i don't even draw anymore because everytime i try to i see how bad i am and i just can't bear it, so i systematically throw the paper away and forget about it, untill after days, weeks or months i just feel the need to draw something again, and then the same shit happens

is there anyway to snap out of this? i don't even want to become really good, i just want to draw decently enough so i don't feel like shit everytime i do something that is supposed to make me feel better
