When I open this .png file in photoshop it becomes distorted
Any possible reason as to why?

Try to open it in krita and then save as .psd, maybe that'll work.
Good day lads! I would just like a bit of help with a slight problem I have! I am a hobbyist when it comes to Photoshop, and I am slowly learning how to do things, and I have been working on my Regimental logo. The problem I have is that I need to make a "G" in the same format as the "EME EM" that you see. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Also, here is what the "G" is supposed to look like in terms of general shape, I just need help with making it with the same texture as the image I am working on.

not easy reverse engineering a typeface, especially a G, the typeface used here is an old style or transitional serif so you can start by looking at some G's in those typeface families.

why not instead of the lame crack you just use different font sizes it will give you more contrast
also make the type and the placeholders smaller
bump the vibrance
add some noise
I like the idea of the crack but it looks off if not connected to the other words

Clean it up (i.e. Trace with pen too & shape), and reduce the opacity of the sun rays
Also switch the fonts for something more professional. Built in M$ fonts have their uses, but this isn't one of them.
A color pallet that looks more 'on purpose' would take this graphic a long way

pick a sans serif font to compliment the structure of the buildings. can probly simplify the color scheme to show off what you want. like, what is the point of the low opacity or the highlight on the left? do you want to show depth or a silhouette? is there a reason to all this besides trying to make it look more interesting? maybe just grayscale or is there a reason for the orange? make every choice intentional rather than looking like an accident

Looking for experienced people that could give tips/links/books/vids/etc. about silk screening.
I was thinking about setting it up in my room, it's okay size, so shouldn't be a problem.

you could make your own screens but it's just easier to buy it.
