pic related is mine, and needless to say my initials are N and S what do you think of this concept? As for the design i'm okay with it, but its the coloring thats bothering me. what do you think? advise will be furiously appreciated

What's up guys I recently create a eSport tram named Ucy-Union with some friends. I talk to many grafic designer to make m'y logo but no succes. I didn't have 300$ to spent on that.. So I made a "Alpha" of what I want.. The result is Nice but mot proffetionnal. I what this shape but with a 'sticker' aspect and Ucy on it you know. Help me come on

Can someone help me with L4D2 Authorising Tools? I am trying to create a window with window frame, but all the entities on the entity menu are unable to be scaled, so appear much larger than the structure I am building.
Also, I cannot seem to find any tutorials for window frame creation (as in to produce a detailed frame with shading and such).
If anyone could help me, it would be absolutely great, and make my night.

What would look better on a video website:

>red navbar, light-grey header, very pale grey background, red buttons
My mom (she's an artist) says that the first one would look much better, while I (a webdev) believe that the second one is far, far better. Who's right? Not linking to the website because of privacy reasons.

it really matters on what kind of red, grey, green it is etc.. this is a super weird question to ask in the way you did
Post mockups
When i import from photoshop to after effects my text layer turns out as the upper text "sample". Its as if the letters are transparent, yet it does take away the background effect.
When i try to use the same font and type it in AE, it turns up like sample 2.
I am kinda new to AE and i have no idea whats going on and what i should do to get me text the way i had it in photoshop, can anyone please help me?
if both of the fonts are wrong, what do you even want to achieve?
is this tecxture layer switched to multiply or anything?

well before u import it to ae convert it into one layer in ps so the effects are applied. otherwise open the type window in AE and look if u have an outline on your type
No growth in current studio so I want to take some stuff i've design for the company and put them up on behance, etc. Asked my boss and he refused, even the rejected studies. I asked my other friends in the field, they said he's wrong and as long as I don't claim it as mine, I could add it in my portfolio discreetly.
What action should I take?
Also what is more in demand nowadays? UX/UI design, motion design or web design? Or is UX/UI basically under web or something

This, depends on your contract but like 99% of the time in creative fields like this everything you do on company time is legally the intellectual property of the company.

This was my first time doing a T-Shirt design without any free hand drawing besides the sketch and the shading. Bit of a Star Wars and Portal crossover for the nerds with the deep pockets. Does it look legit?
Improvements for the next design that I should focus on?

To average geek it'll be hard to see the portal crossover. Maybe make it more recognizable with an aperture logo or something. Either way looks like something that can sell.

Is it possible to make a living as a graphic designer using nothing but open source software ?
Probably, but you're going to be stuck taking jobs on Craigslist or working at some shitty Chinese decal shop that uses Corel Draw.
Respectable agencies and companies use the Adobe Suite, either find a way to deal with it or be happy accepting third-rate jobs.
Depends on what you mean. You can make a living with almost anything provided you're willing to try hard enough.
That being said, Adobe is the industry standard and it is what everyone expects you to use.
File associations, compatibility, and for things like raster and vector applications you may be able to get by with Inkscape, Xara, or GIMPin' it.
But the second a client asks you to lay out a large publication, and you DON'T use Indesign, they are going to know. Especially if they intend to go to press with an actual packaged file and you...

Hi /gd/. So I'm looking to start a small graphic design bureau; I have the technical skills to do logos, banners, etc. but need some basic help on which formats, sizes, etc. you normally send out when a task is done..
Also what are some aesthetically visionary marketing bureaus out there right now?

from the sound of it, you have a lot more to learn than just formats and sizes... being able to create logos is one thing, running a business is another.
Thanks for the advice. I do study business administration on my third year and can do a little bit more than creating a logo.
If you know anything about standard formats, sizes, what is expecting, etc. that would be great. If not I don't see why you would spend time replying
