28 KB,
Does anyone here can tell me how I can make a pic like I uploaded from a normal photo?

I can only use Gimp2 and I struggle to find a way to make a simple outlined picture. So far I've found nothing and started drawing simple outlines in another layer but obviously this is too inefficient.

Is there another way via Gimp?

I think any automated way wouldn't get all the details you wanted and wouldn't be smooth, as seen in picture related, done in photoshop, using the Filter>Filter Gallery>Stylize>Glowing edges to get the outline then messing with the Levels a little to get rid of some of the 'impurities' but in the end it will never be perfect, at least not with any method I know . Only way to get it looking good is to draw over it manually, easiest way is probably with the pen tool (in Photoshop, whatever...

Thanks thats already a good idea. Already on the manual painting but its a pain in the arse, but the other one is a good idea. I'll see if Gimp features this as well

I'm trying my hand on a logo for a fictional service called pass the popcorn (no relation to the concept of the tracker btw). I've had this idea spooking in my head where you have an app in which you can find random people in your town who watch certain tv shows and you get to invite eachother to watch together. Like a tinder type of thing but for getting together with strangers (or friends) to watch TV.

So I'm trying to include the elements of popcorn, a television and a play button, and some sort of font but I just can't get it right. None of the...

use a play icon with rounded corners combined with the thing below a message box icon to form the letter P. it would look better if part below the message box icon is very small. -pic related
>>
>>251794
That would just look like a speech bubble with a play icon in it.

Which is different but I guess the social aspect is represented that way. I might just do speech bubble with the popcorn in it or something, hmm!
>>
>>251792
Since the popcorn is the core design element i'd say use that with a play button on top

if you keep digging through trash, all you will find is trash.
None of those logos you have are good, and i think you know that.
You should expect the development of an idea for a strong, effective, logo to take a minimum of 20 hours.
People that would be willing to work for a SPECULATIVE rate of $2 an hour are not going to produce quality work.

hi /gd/,
in a trade highschool going for graphic design, ive been looking into what you usually get for monthly salaries and im not finding a clear awnser, also planning on getting some sort of college type qualifications for gd also, if anybody has any info that would lead me the right way it would be greatly appreciated

Canadian here :

Average is from around $0 - C$60,000

Why do I say 0? You can attend a GD school and still be shit. Thus, no one will hire you for freelance and no firms will hire you. On the other hand, if you get in a nice cushy firm and over the years aim for seniority. You can usually make around 60k. That's around what my fathers current take home as a GD is.
>>
>>251665
There is no clear answer, it's a tradeskill. The better you are at your trade, the more valuable you are, the more you can make.

>monthly
I bring in about 12k USD monthly working for myself

>college info
College for GD is essentially just training to get a job. However, you don't need college to get that training. I went to a 2 year trade school for design that was apart of my high school, then got a low paying job at a small agency.
>>
>>251665
Clear Answer... GD = 46,000 every day.

not bad but i'm guessing you just did the layout right? the two things i didn't like:
the black strokes and the size proportions for the logos (also maybe leave a little more space on the top and bottom)
>>
>>251789
Made the background, and threw together the layout of everything yea. Some of the logos were really low quality and pixellated, so I had to kind of redraw them to get the quality up. I also made the entire logo for the bottom right band.

What do you mean when you say black strokes? I'm confused only because I'm a heavy abuser of the stroke effect in Photoshop and this is one of the few times I didn't use it haha. And thanks, I was thinking it needed a bit more height as well
>>
>>251784
the background looks really bad. did you use high res resources? Also the capture the crown logo looks really bad. Did you crop it?

4/10

also capture the crown sucks really hard.

Hey /gd/, need some help.

I'm making a shitty screensaver for the computer store where I work that displays the specs of the laptop/desktop that it's put on.

My problem is that I need a program where only the actual pc information (green) will be editable in the final file. If the people I work with would actually attempt to use photoshop, I'd just lock the layers in a .psd that I don't want them to change but they're annoyingly avoidant.

A .pdf with locked layers would still allow them to change the font though, and I could see someone messing up the final and plastering it all over the store stock.

So what I need is some program or file that is idiot-proof, and will only allow editing of basic text.

I've been playing around with adobe Acrobat; I added the non-green parts as the file background and added text over the top, but I'm not sure if I can even lock the location of text without creating one of their restricted forms.

use photoshop but put the things you don't want them to modify on a rasterized layer.

Next week I have a poster session at my uni where I have to defend my research objectives and methodology. Problem is, I have no experience with graphical design and it's supposed to look flashy. Any practical software and resources I should look into?

I do not really have more than 15 hours to make this, so any advanced Photoshop wizardry is out of the question. Supposed to look a bit like pic related, but nicer.

235 KB,
Adobe Photoshop CS5 gradient tool does (for some reason) not create a consistent fade from one color to the other.

Check the image, try it yourself.

I managed to to a correct fade by abusing the motion blur filter.

I have not tried this with any other version of photoshop but I guess it would look the same everywhere.

This was probably done to give the gradient a more natural look to the eye.
BUT: since every gradient has this profile like this, you can check any image you find online that has a gradient and see if it was created using photoshop...

most of what you wrote is pure gibberish. I mean srsly boy, get a fucking grip. You sound like a proper autist.

And be brief next time if you need help ffs.

You are talking about banding.

You can fix that by adding noise or diffuse. that is the only way.

There are tuts on Youtube

Next time try not to be so autistic.

That's interesting. I know Photoshop versions handle gradients differently and that the "dither" checkbox came to play in like as late as CS3 I think.

Nonetheless, Photoshop's gradient math is incorrect, but not so much that an average person would care. Related reading:

Hey guys, need some help with Blender.

As you can see in pic related, I'm creating an island with an ocean. I need help with making it realistic enough to pass as a simple indie developer game. Preferably with transparancy in close quarters and gloss. It doesn't have to be perfect, just OK to look at.
I'm creating this scene for a game, so I can't use cycles. Most tutorials I find on google do this in cycles, that's why I need your help. I should also have a simple hitbox so I can create a drowning feature.

Last thing, a river flows...
