Depends on which retelling but I kind of like the idea that Starscream is so ambitious and so set on climbing upwards, we're never allowed to know where exactly he came from.
Maybe hints and stories from the past but not the starting place.
Never played the game. Expected it to fail for being what it was, but this movie was actually entertaining.
