I've been excited about rebirth overall. However, the shit they got going with post crisis superman and new 52 superman is so convoluted and stupid it's really putting me off from wanting to try any of the rebirth superman titles. How could they fuck this up so bad?

I don't think DC actually pays enough attention to Morrison's stuff for that. The next writers just gleam whatever surface stuff they want and move on. It could be neat, but doubtful.

Rebirth got me hyped, but I'm not very familiar with these characters.
Geoff Johns' run is the definitive JSA.

If you want to read a bunch in order, a good place to hit is the Parobeck short run in the 90s, realize they got fucked up by Zero Hour, then Robinson Starman, Johns Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E., into Robinson/Goyer (yes, that Goyer)/Johns JSA.

If it helps, I enjoy action, high concept stuff and character driven stories. Not necessarily from Image, didn't know what other pic to use.

Just read any Valiant series other than Faith. Same Big Two flavor without the shit aftertaste.
Sadly most Image stuff is just transparent TV and movie pitches. Decent first arcs but they almost all fall off after that.
There are no good comics.
Chew is close to ending, but I highly recommend the trades/omnivore editions.
Descender and Empty Zone are my current pull list from Image that are solid.
If Vertigo counts, then check out Sheriff of Babylon.
