Logically, as a film studio, why cast her?
It's possible - and hear me out - that she was the best actress for the job who auditioned. Producers don't just get their pics because they're Warner, and actresses don't just get parts for looking a certain way. Only thebasedporn industry works anywhere remotely that way.
It's very possible the producer had a list of actresses in mind for the role, but none of them wanted to do it or has time to do the role. So then they cast auditions and they liked what they saw in Gadot, or maybe the director or F&F put in a good word, or people in the Hollywood circles knows she's an okay actress who is easy to deal with.
It's also very possible that with the budget going nuts with this bevy of famous talent that they wanted somebody relatively untested for the role to keep costs in line.
That said, despite wonder woman being an A-List hero, she's not high stakes/high priority for Warner. Getting the most famous actress might not be a good move. The trend these days is to get low risk actors they can build a series on. High payout for low risk on untested titles.
