In fact, I could see Coulson's drive for revenge leading him to accidentally allow the ancient Inhuman's successful return to Earth. He realizes he went too far and while he still wants to see Ward die for what he's done he has to do it the right way and not let emotions drive him. And before he can try and take him down by the book they've gotta take care of the Inhuman that's gonna be wrecking shit on Earth.
