What was the last great CN show? I'm going to say Billy & Mandy. It still had shades of that Grossout 90's humour, and the anarchic spirit that you used to be able to identify with CN. I know that's not the most precise description, but I'm not sure what else to call it.
Early billy and Mandy is nothing like anything that came before it. It's very dark, it doesn't even bother having humor at some parts. Later Billy and Mandy is very golden age spongebob with some more pop culture references thrown in.

The ending of this always bothered me. Superman never proved that his non-lethal methods were best, he just proved that he's stronger than the Authority. I expected some sort of moral triumph but we never get it unless we assume might literally makes right

Except instead of the gritty heroes of the late 80s early 90s it was in answer to the all too short but burning hot popularity of the authority.
Personally I would like to have seen another swipe taken at the idea when the nu52 hit. With authority now in the dcu they could have easily had the actual ellis/millar style authority overthrowing regimes, killing dictators, crossing borders, doing crazy rockstar violent shit. Then have the JLA having to kinda put a stop to their shit. Have a nice little crossover JLA vs Authority story with competing ideologies and some damn cool fights. Maybe get to see Midnighter completely hand batmans ass to him.
But nope instead we just got that awful nu52 stormwatch.
